Burnout is NOT fun!

Over working yourself to the point where you need to sleep for days is not cool. Being busy is not something you should aspire to. Amazing time management and career alignment should be the goal.

While working too many hours can lead to burnout, it's not the only cause.

Causes:


Too many hours
Working a job you hate
Working for a terrible leader
Not enough rest
Too much stress
Lack of support system
Ethics / morals / values don't align to your organization
Don't get to make your own choices
Bored or not challenged enough
Taking on too much at once


So with that, what exactly is burnout?



Signs of burnout:


Feeling tired / exhausted
Not wanting to eat
Easily getting sick
Anxiety is heightened
Having a hard time sleeping
Difficulty focusing
Irritability
Easy to get angry or annoyed
Feeling sad or depressed
Being overly negative / can't find the positive
Losing joy / happiness in things / activities / people you used to find it in
Withdrawing
Low performance / productivity
Becoming obsessive over things / activities


What to do:


Take time off if you can
Re-balance workload
Talk to your leader - ask for options
Get some movement in on a regular basis
Sleep, sleep, sleep
Add in more healthy eating options / vitamins
Try meditation
Engage in activities that relax you
Do some breath work
Get help
Chat with friends, family and co-workers more frequently
Distance yourself from negative people
Work on projects that fuel your purpose
