Intro to Book, Let in But Left Out: Leadership, Faith and Knowledge in the Age of AI, Coronavirus and Fake News

Podcast (7 Nov 2020, 6:48) – Podcast audio recording of the chapter, “Transatlantic, Trail of Tears & The Rockies,” from the new Oct 2020 book Let in But Left Out: Leadership, Faith & Knowledge in the Age of AI, Coronavirus and Fake News. The book is written by Frank Shines and co-authored and researched by Granison Shines and Umer Qureshi.  In this podcast episode, Frank and Granison provide an introduction to the chapter from the section, A Call for Reflection read by Adrian Starks. The two discuss the recent announcement of the President-Elect Joe Biden and VP-Elect Kamala Harris to succeed the Trump Administration and how it relates to this chapter on reflection, history, coronavirus science and leadership. Frank uses the true-life stories of the struggles and pioneering achievements of his family -- from the Revolutionary War, Slavery, Emancipation Proclamation and the Great Migration West to the Rockies and California. The book, Let in But Left Out is divided in three Sections: A Call for Reflection. During the pandemic many Americans are taking time to reflect on themselves, their families and U.S. history. Past generations came together as a unified nation during periods of crisis to lead the world. What went wrong during the coronavirus?  A Call for Balance. Hyperpolarization and Fake News now prevent us Americans from coming together to tackle big, hairy problems like generations past. In Let in But Left Out, Frank Shines writes, "Democracy is an experiment, not an entitlement."  John Adams wrote, “Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There was never a democracy that did not commit suicide.” [10] A Call for Action. Now is the time for each of us to rise above our differences and reach out in a manner that shows dignity and respect to those with whom me may not agree. The most important problems of our time cannot be addressed with America violently divided. Start with your family and local community, then let us take this nationally and globally.
