SON3 #4 Pt. 2: Hannah Lau - Land the Plane Safely

As entrepreneurs, defeat is not something that is easily accepted or swallowed. But throughout the past year, many businesses across the world had to accept the reality of what was so and figure out new plans based on things they couldn’t control.

Which is why it was very timely to have this conversation with Hannah Lau, a family friend and a powerhouse entrepreneur who boldly moved to the other side of the universe (from Canada to China). We discuss her journey in maneuvering a brand new environment knowing little Mandarin and working for international advertising agencies in the corporate sector to starting her own agency in the hub of Asia.

We talk about how the business faced the challenges of being in a country of political unrest, followed by a worldwide pandemic (part 1), and how ultimately, it was time to downsize and take its leave - and how to “land the plane” calmly and safely (part 2). We also talk about how she gained her own clarity in direction and empowered not only her team to move forward, but her clients as well.

I can’t wait for you to hear all of this - she’s a powerhouse!

SON3 #3: Patricia Drewnowska - Baking Through Grief

SON3 #3: Patricia Drewnowska - Baking Through Grief

In this episode, we speak to Patricia Drewnowska, the owner of Patricia’s Cake Creations, whose story kind of hits close to home. Her transition story begins with grief and fuelled her interest (which eventually turned into her drive) to begin a bakery, shifting from her background in finance and math. For me, as someone who also experienced immense grief (followed by depression and anxiety) in the past year, Patricia’s conversation resonated.

We delve deeper into what grief does to you as a human being, which translates to how operating a business can either comfort or break your well-being. We also talk about pivoting a food business amidst a pandemic and why idealism doesn’t belong in times of crisis.

Patricia now runs the immensely successful Toronto bakery with her mom, Maria, and is maneuvering the pandemic with grace (for the most part!), while also being an awesome mom to two kids.

    SON3 #2: Ricardo McRae - Be a Dandelion

    SON3 #2: Ricardo McRae - Be a Dandelion

We're officially on our first guest interview with the incomparable, funny, no bullshit Ricardo McRae - an entrepreneur pretty much since birth, starting from his roots in Trinidad to pounding the pavement in Toronto to putting his way through art school to now building wealth for others as well as himself with his beautiful wife and kid.

Ricardo and I talk about MANY things, but mainly the raw hunger of being a business owner in the face of adversity and literally choosing between making it work and death (I will never look at an onion the same again - thanks, bro!).

Before becoming a financial advisor, he was the Creative Director of a boutique consultancy, Wedge15, and the Creator of BlackInCanada.com – Canada’s leading source of Black Excellence reaching over 1M people in 100 countries with 30K+ fans and followers. He studied Fine Arts and Business at the University of Windsor and the Ontario College of Art and Design before acquiring his Project Management designation and becoming an award-winning entrepreneur and TEDx speaker.

Most of all, he is a good friend, and I can't wait for you to listen to his story.

SON3 #1: Kimberly Fu Skubic - The Path Unknown

In my first solo podcast episode (EVER! So be kind!), I introduce the reasoning why I even decided to start recording a podcast. I never do anything unintentionally so it had to make sense for me, and it was finally time.

In this episode, I chat about the story behind the title of Secret Option Number 3, my motivators in becoming an entrepreneur, and really, who I am as a person and as a host. This podcast is for entrepreneurs everywhere experiencing change, rebirth, and wiping the slate clean. This podcast is for people that may feel like they are alone in the struggles that COVID-19 has placed on us.

I hope you enjoy, and come back next week as I interview my first guest. SUBSCRIBE and FOLLOW ME on Instagram @addoil.consulting

    Cheers.
