    12. DEATH FEEDS LIFE ~ Grief, Mourning Rituals, and Grieving with the Earth with Lana Smithner Greenleaf

    12. DEATH FEEDS LIFE ~ Grief, Mourning Rituals, and Grieving with the Earth with Lana Smithner Greenleaf

In this episode, our host Gaby Azorsky speaks with Lana Smithner Greenleaf. AND HOLY SHIT THIS EPISODE IS SO GOOD. Lana is the creator of Mourning Rituals, a place for somatic release sessions, death care services, and guided grief support & rituals. She is a certified somatic practitioner, death midwife, TRE® provider, green burial advocate, grief guide, meditation/movement/yoga teacher, ritual maker, and believes that melding healing modalities with art and storytelling is the way forward.

Lana has a foundation as a multidisciplinary artist and is the director of a community service project that supports all forms of grieving and de-stigmatizes having a relationship with death called “Death, Me, Dying Tree”.
A quote from her website ~ “Recently I’ve begun re-membering mourning rituals that allow us to focus on the exhale, to look to the animals and waters of the world for movements that help to ripple and release our sadness and by doing so, metabolize our grief and pain into heartfelt lung-fuel to continue breathing in life.”

When I started brainstorming the topics I wanted to discuss on Spiral Deeper, grief was at the top of the list. Through the passing of my beloved grandparents, Shirley and Josef Sands, in 2020 and 2021, I experienced grief for the first time at age 24. I felt emotions that I had never felt before, and let myself crash into wave after wave of grief whenever it hit me.

In our episode today, we flow through a vast depth of topics ~ her path to death and grief work, being in a dynamic of bullying, growing up, wanting to die and ending one’s life, the interconnection of grief and trauma, how we can support our loved ones through loss, we talk about my grandpa, laughing and crying, burials, and grieving WITH the Earth.

I hope you feel less alone in your grief and sorrow.~

Thank you Lana for your vulnerability and the work that you do!

    10. ALIGNING WITH SPIRIT ~ Clairvoyance, Energy Healing, and Spiritual Teams with Melanie Esperon

    10. ALIGNING WITH SPIRIT ~ Clairvoyance, Energy Healing, and Spiritual Teams with Melanie Esperon

In this episode, our host Gaby Azorsky speaks with Melanie Esperon. Melanie is the founder and creator of Reiki Room San Diego, established in 2011.

Melanie Esperon was born and raised in San Diego, California. She tapped into her clairvoyancy at the early age of 6 but remained quiet amongst the crowd. She eventually grew out of her cancerian shell with the influence of her loving closeknit family. In her 20's, she lived through a foreseen tragedy of her significant other passing away where she was brought to a place of deep heartache and surrender. She immersed herself whole heartedly into her own innerchild work to rediscover the gifts of prophetic intuition, the angelic realm, reiki energy, sound healing, filipino & hawaiian grounding practices and more. She believes that true healing can only occur with the continuous work of understanding, letting go and replenishing with the highest light.
Through infinite sessions, trainings, mentorships, events and retreats across the globe, Melanie and the dedicated lineage of light workers continue to spread clarity, clearing and consciousness to all.

In 2021 I participated in a program with Frances Naude called The Alignment Academy, and during that program, which I loved, Melanie was a guest teacher. All of our minds and hearts were BLOWN. She is one of the only true clairvoyants who I trust and recommend. I love how rooted in LOVE she is.

In our episode today, we talk about Melanie’s journey, spiritual teams, intuition and clairvoyance, spiritual business, signs from your Spiritual team, and the responsibility of being a healer.

I hope you take away tools for aligning with your highest timeline, connecting with your spiritual team, and shining your light. At the end of the episode, Melanie channels Archangel Michael, and they come through with beautiful, heartfelt guidance. Enjoy ~

Thank you Melanie for your radiance and heart!

    9. GOING SLOW WITH DHARMA ~ Meditation, Compassion, and Orienting Home with Jessica Angima

    9. GOING SLOW WITH DHARMA ~ Meditation, Compassion, and Orienting Home with Jessica Angima

In this episode, our host Gaby Azorsky speaks with Jessica Angima. Jessica is a first generation, Kenyan-American meditation instructor and social practice artist and organizer. Jessica is a writer and shares her Substack, Slowly, Slowly. She currently teaches Heart-Mind Meditation at Heal Haus, works at Arena, and is often found at the 462 Halsey Community Garden in Bed-Stuy.

I met Jessica at MNDFL in New York City where I was part of their work-study program and she was studying and teaching. We spent many weeks together at the front desk silently enjoying each others company, and I really loved being part of a sangha (Dharma community) with her.

Jessica and I talk about her path to dharma, Lovingkindness, wisdom for starting your practice, home, ecology, interdependence, community, and what she calls “McMindfullness”.

Our slow, meditative, conversation opens the doors for you to start a meditation practice with the permission that it can look many different ways, but promises a happier life.

Here is the quote that I read during the episode ~

Being naturalized to place means to live as if this is the land that feeds you, as if these are the streams from which you drink, that build your body and fill your spirit. To become naturalized is to know that your ancestors lie in this ground. Here you will give your gifts and meet your responsibilities. To become naturalized is to live as if your children’s future matters, to take care of the land as if our lives and the lives of all our relatives depend on it. Because they do.

    -Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer

Thank you Jessica for your openness and gentle perspective on dharma! Enjoy ~

    8. OUR BODIES AS PLANTS ~ Somatic Healing and Herbal Medicine with Kristen Cassie

    8. OUR BODIES AS PLANTS ~ Somatic Healing and Herbal Medicine with Kristen Cassie

In this episode, our host Gaby Azorsky speaks with Kristen Cassie. Kristen is a Trauma trained Somatic Practitioner and Clinical Herbalist. In her sessions, we re-member what it is like to be connected to our bodies, to the Earth and to the wisdom that flows through all. Though trauma-informed somatic healing, parts work and inner child work, herbal therapies, and embodiment practice, she can HOLD SPACE.

Kristen is the founder of the herbal medicine line, Moon Canyon, with her dear friend and business partner, Sarah Dolan. Moon Canyon is rooted in the belief that all healing is relational and reciprocal in nature. Kristen and Sarah are herbalists, who have come together to remember what it is to heal in community. As practitioners in the healing arts, they tend the relationship between self and the natural world. Co-creatively they formulate herbal medicines and practice healing modalities that awaken the body and spirit into a place of aliveness. I love their products and the intentionally depth and beauty they create, especially their seasonal medicine boxes.

While working with her and Moon Canyon last year, I got to witness her speak continuously about herbs, the earth, and somatic healing. Hearing Kristen speak on these topics is soothing, safe, and mesmerizing. Kristen and I talk about her story, somatic healing, herbalism, plant allies, integration, parts work, grounding, our nervous systems, and at the end, Kristen shares tactical tips for regulating our bodies along with a yummy grounding practice.

I hope you feel held and expanded while listening ~

Thank you Kristen for your beautiful energy, guidance, wisdom, and story!

    7. SPACIOUSNESS IN THE SACRED WEB ~ Tarot and Interconnectedness with Jannie Bui Brown and James Brown of The Sacred Web Tarot

    7. SPACIOUSNESS IN THE SACRED WEB ~ Tarot and Interconnectedness with Jannie Bui Brown and James Brown of The Sacred Web Tarot

In this episode, our host Gaby Azorsky speaks with Jannie and James Brown, creators of The Sacred Web Tarot. If you are a nerd for the expansion, contraction, and beauty of life, this episode is for you. You do not have to know Tarot to enjoy or learn, and if you love Tarot like I do, this provides so many beautiful perspectives on how to work with this ancient system of knowing/unknowing.

The Sacred Web Tarot is a gender-neutral, hallowed space for all beings where everything is connected and everything is sacred. It is one of the decks that I turn to with sacred reverence, for deep healing and guidance, and that I love to share with the ones I love.

Jannie, the author of The Sacred Web Tarot, is an artist, yoga teacher, devoted mother of three and partner in life with her beloved. She considers herself to be a life-long student of all things spiritual and liberating and finds herself most at home on a trail by a stream, under a tree or on a couch reading a good book. James, the illustrator of The Sacred Web Tarot, is an artist whose mediums range from film making to digital drawing. He is the founder of the small production company Spontaneous Productions and has spent the last few years drawing this deck, reading tarot, writing scripts, and creating original comic content.

Jannie is the mother of one of my closet friends, Daisy, and James is her brother. Daisy gifted me their deck when it came out, and I was in awe at the profound support, guidance, and unconditional love that it offered me. I turn to this deck often, and am so grateful for the gift of this conversation.

Jannie, James, and I talk about the origin story of the deck, their creative process, mental illness, peace, gratitude, miracles, and nerd out on the many elements that make this guidebook and deck SO special.

Thank you Jannie and James for your magnificent hearts and your collaboration!
