    Jessie Tarbox Beals

According to Jessie Tarbox Beals - the first female photojournalist in the world - the key to success is mostly HUSTLE. In her case, it looked like this: arrive in a new town, set up a darkroom, canvas the populace, ingratiate yourself, SNAP SNAP SNAP, develop, print, deliver, catch the train as it's pulling out of the station...

    Althea Gibson Part 1

    Althea Gibson Part 1

There are quite a few lines on a tennis court; sideline, baseline, service line - all of which have their functions. Maria Anna Mozart and Clara Schumann

Maria Anna Mozart and Clara Schumann

Maria Anna Mozart and Clara Schumann were talented and musically gifted women. They were both child prodigies and both dazzled audiences across Europe. While they were (and still are) often put in the shadow of a talented male relative, one woman quietly stepped out of the spotlight while the other fought to stay.

LoveNightfall ,

Excellent deep dives!

I have learned so much listening to this show, not only about historical women (many I’d never heard of and many I gained new insight about), but also of the contexts within which they lived. This includes but is not limited to historical and cultural information. The hosts do the most thorough research I’ve come across, including the listener in their critical engagement with the research material. As a listener, you are in very safe hands; these women know their history. Sometimes I personally miss a more radical perspective, but the upside of this is that their voice comes across as relatively bipartisan - it seems to me that listeners from across the political spectrum can learn from this and not be alienated by the views of the podcasters. Cannot recommend enough. Enjoy!

A great show!

Two intelligent and sincerely funny women talking about women in history. The subjects are often well known people already in our minds, but in this show with details and stories that gives the listener a much better grasp of the person and her life, in her context. They do a really good job on research, so you don’t get the feeling that it’s just rumors and urban myths being retold. Great show!
