An athenophilic liberal undergraduates best friend and resource
This podcast is a window showcasing a brilliant classicist, traditionalist, and culturalist. As an undergraduate student of psychology and social science, attending a progressive London university, this podcast has been a vehicle out of despair and a compass for pro-social influence. Dr Hansons blatant and honest right wing bias, and his genuine liberal roots, combines to illustrate the most moral and intellectually effective model for the future of American conservatism. The ‘right’ should learn from Dr Hansons criticism of the bigotry of leftism. This is an honest and obvious strategy to electoral victory for conservatism - to co-opt the talking points of the left; and it is surprising that Dr Hanson is so alone in pressing this perspective. To me it shows his intellectual honesty and models quality thinking, i.e., looking past the entrenched partisan talking points, and the extrapolation from first (liberal) principles.
The podcast leaves something to be desired in terms of format. One problem with podcasts is that one comes to confound the quality of points with personality, given the countless hours of content. In this regard, Dr Hanson has at this point illustrated his personality and frame of reference sufficiently. In my mind the next step, then, is to branch out in terms of subjects. Instead of constantly talking current affairs, which outcome comes to be predictable for long time listeners, the hosts should interview Dr Hanson on subjects more conducive to his academic training; while keeping the focus on current affairs to a lesser degree. What about, per week, one episode on current political affairs, one on the structure of the leftist mind, one on the structure of liberal western-ism and its ancient roots, and one on historical matters ancient and modern?
I hope to see Dr. Hanson talk about the epistemology, and history, of the left, and how this contrasts with that of classical liberalism. To me, and I assume society in general, this would be the best way of providing a toolset for combating, and showcasing, illiberalism.
And Fowler, if you read this, your tendency for self deprecation is unnecessary and sometimes a little uncomfortable to listen to. You are a great host. So, pease internalise this fact, it will make you more able to counter the ‘fifth’ “what I’m getting at” and the sixth tangent. And finally, the reading of the review’s are maybe a bit unnecessary, given that there are all so consistently good. Maybe try some more critical ones (like this one) if they exist, it would illustrate honesty and respect for the audience.
5 stars. Thank you for fighting the good fight, Hanson, Fowler and Winc.
Tremendous wisdom and eloquency
I am a former US resident now living in Norway, the land of the Vikings, although there is not much Viking spirit left in the population, I should add. I start every day with a cup of English tea and the latest podcast from Victor, if available. Once completed, I feel whole and ready to face whatever challenge everyday life throws at me. I have just started on «The dying citizen», a highly recommended book for any defender of Western culture. Mr Hanson is sharing tremendous amounts of knowledge, wisdom and common sense. He is simply a blessing to anyone seeking to expand one's horizons. Thank you very much.
