Honoring International Women's Day - Answering three questions on how we define what a strong women means to us (ft. Cathie and Rachel)

This week Mackenzie wanted to honor and celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8th) and so what better way to do that than FaceTime some incredible women in her life and ask them what being strong means to them!

Mackenzie interviewed her two friends separately: Cathie going first and ending the episode with Rachel.  Asking them these three questions:

    1. Define what a strong woman means to you?

    2. How do you empower yourself and the women around you?

    3. Name some strong women in your life and why you consider them to be strong.

The two guests today are Cathie Haynor (making another comeback) and Rachel Larkin. Rach is a childhood friend and a twin. Her, Cath, Kate (the twin) and Mac played on the same competitive soccer team and went to school together growing up.

There are many ways women are empowering themselves and other women around them so here’s a snapshot on where we’re at and how we as women see ourselves.

How Three Best Friends Cope with Commitment Issues (ft. Ryan and Cathie)

How Three Best Friends Cope with Commitment Issues (ft. Ryan and Cathie)

In the WYA's ep2, the structure is a bit different.  Mackenzie interviews her two best friends because one of them was microphone shy and needed a buddy...I won't be naming any names.

Break the ice: check out the Playing Cards: Actually Curious- "In 2018, we created Actually Curious as a tool to spread empathy and fight divisiveness in this country. Playing a fun and competitive card game is a sneakily effective way of disarming the defenses and getting into important topics."

Cathie and Mackenzie met in middle school on their club soccer team.  Mackenzie felt threatened when she noticed Cathie becoming close with her twin best friends.  But her jealously died down when her and Cathie started to become close.

Cathie and Mac met Ryan in high school, where they navigated every anxie teen experience together.  They talk about the "right of passage" which is also known as the first time they all got high, separately.  Ryan shares his One Hit Wonder story and Cathie and Mac confess about the time the two almost die while sneaking out of Mackenzie's second story window.

As high school ends, the threat of college pulls them away from each other and all their mischief.  Toward the end of the episode,  they discuss their different experiences and how its help shape them into where they are now.  They discuss their issues with commitment.  Not only the fear of commitment in relationships but also in their careers.

During this recorded episode, Cathie was applying to jobs but update here- she accepted a job offer and is moving to Denver, CO in January 2021.  so proud!

Where You At's welcomes her first ever Podcast guest to the hot seat!  Mackenzie's first ever guest is her 6th grade best friend, Sarina.  The two reminisce on what it was like to have their moms force them to be best friends, their first fight, and how their friendship evolved and grew despite  different high schools, their college experiences, and living bicoastal from each other.

Sarina gets vulnerable and honest about how she's been navigating through her mental health during the Pandemic,  she shares her spiritual journey, and what it's like to be 26 and never been kissed!

ALSO, check out the Playing Cards: Actually Curious- "In 2018, we created Actually Curious as a tool to spread empathy and fight divisiveness in this country. Playing a fun and competitive card game is a sneakily effective way of disarming the defenses and getting into important topics."
