This week on the show I am very excited to be joined by lespecial drummer Rory Dolan! Rory and I cover a lot in our chat, taking it back to the beginning, growing up in Connecticut, starting to play music with bassist Luke at a young age and what it’s like being in a band that’s already been playing together for 20 years. Rory takes us through his years of Umphrey's McGee fandom, and how him getting to sit in during the jam on Phil's Farm at Red Rocks in 2022 happened.
We dive all into Rory getting the opportunity to play in Kris’ place in Chicago night one and night two of UM's 2023 NYE run, what his homework process looked like; not only preparing to play the songs but preparing mentally and physically. Rory shares what he was hoping they would have played but didn’t, his typical pre and post show rituals and more!
Rory also shares the hilarious story about the time he found himself on a Primus podcast with Les Claypool complete with a spot-on Claypool impression, personally, one of my highlights from our conversation.
