    Unraveling in Mercury Retrograde

    Unraveling in Mercury Retrograde

Minor physical injuries can be perceived as a call to rest and reset. During our last retrograde season, my flight from San Francisco to New York was delayed five hours, with many technicalities during that time. And then my laptop stopped functioning. And then I sprained my ankle in a very public scene on my way to get dumplings in Downtown Flushing. As I cursed the woes of mercury retrograde like every basic millennial standing in line for Starbucks, something clicked. Instead of complaining and feeling shame around working from home—because I could hardly walk to the bathroom without melting into the floor, nevertheless navigate NYC subway systems—I finally had the opportunity I had been subconsciously praying for: to sit still and gift myself some precious time.

When we are moving too fast and too soon in our daily routines, each moment when combined turns into a massive amount of energetic momentum. And while this momentum can benefit us professionally and can therefore be necessary at times, we are well within the laws of nature to reach an abrupt stop. In my case, I fell into a pothole and was writhing in pain before many, many strangers. When the pulsing pain finally began to abate, I felt a moment of peace. I had found a golden opportunity in the midst of a seriously embarrassing and unfortunate event. In this short episode, I’m delving into how my emotional wounds were given love and attention in tandem with my physical wounds. Yet another reminder that all experiences are connected, and there is a lesson to be learned in everything.

    With blessings,
