Beltane Spring Renewal Yoga Nidra 2024
Recorded live May 1, 2024, at Blue Hot Yoga www.bluehotyoga.com
By Melissa Abbott after 26 postures and two breathing exercises in a Hatha Yoga class.
This Spring Renewal Yoga Nidra honors the May 1 or May Day tradition, known in the Celtic Tradition as Beltane.
Beltane is a Celtic festival that marks the beginning of the warmer season, typically celebrated on May 1st. The origins of Beltane can be traced back to ancient Gaelic traditions and is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals, along with Imbolc, Lughnasadh, and Samhain.
Beltane is a fire festival that celebrates fertility, growth, and the blossoming of the earth. It is a time when the veil between the human world and the spirit world is believed to be thin, allowing for easier communication with the divine and the fae folk.
Traditionally, Beltane was a time for lighting bonfires, dancing around the Maypole, and performing rituals to honor the earth and encourage abundance and prosperity for the coming season.
Today, Beltane is still celebrated by modern people as a time to honor the earth, connect with the cycles of nature, and celebrate the vitality and energy of the season. It is a time for planting seeds, setting intentions, and embracing the energy of growth and renewal that comes with the warmer months.
