    Bread of Life

    Bread of Life

Jesus the Bread of Life who came down from heaven to give us life abundant and eternal. Because our sin nature natural craves food that does not nourish our souls, does not satisfy our longings, and does not build community, Jesus came to bring Living Bread. The life that Jesus gives nourishes our soul, satisfies our longings, and builds and eternal community of His Kingdom around the body and blood of Jesus. (John 6) May 5, 2024

The Hope of the Now and the Not Yet in the Pit of Dispair

The Hope of the Now and the Not Yet in the Pit of Dispair

Jesus used the sign of healing the disabled man at the Pool of Bethesda to boldly proclaim His equality with God the Father, His authority to give life, His authority to Judge the living and the dead, and His authority as the only Way to life abundant and eternal. In today’s message, we explore the implications of these truths for daily living, in addition to the hope of the “now and the not yet” found in the pit of despair. (John 5.1-29) April 28, 2024

    Water into Wine

    Water into Wine

Though Jesus performed many signs, John chose a few to include in his gospel so that we would believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the Christ. The first sign was Jesus turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana. This sign points to Jesus fulfilling the Old Testament prophecies of the coming Messiah, to Jesus bringing a new covenant of grace, to His return, and to what it means to call Him the Messiah. My Lord and My God

    My Lord and My God

The gospel of John tells us not only why we should believe in the resurrection, but also what believing in the resurrection of Jesus Christ means. It means that we confess Jesus to be our “God and Lord.” The journey to confess Jesus as Lord often takes us through serious questions and doubts, but just like Jesus welcomed Thomas’ questions and doubts, so Jesus meets us in our doubts. (John 20.19-29) March 31, 2024.

Can't Just Go Back to Fishing

Can't Just Go Back to Fishing

The reason Christians today continue to believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is not only because of the empty tomb or even the many eyewitness testimonies of the resurrection appearances of the glorified Jesus. Just like with Mary, Jesus continues to call us by name, and when we are drawn to faith, Jesus changes the lives of those who believe in Him. This was true of the apostles who were changed from fearful men into bold preachers of the gospel willing to suffer and die for the risen Christ. (John 21.1-25) March 24, 2024.

    By Sight and By Name

    By Sight and By Name

While the empty tomb is the first reason why we should believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, it is not the only reason nor the best reason. Mary Magdalene, the first eyewitness of the empty tomb, was convinced that the body had been stolen by grave robbers until she met the resurrected glorified Jesus. But it wasn’t until Jesus called her by name that her eyes were fully opened to see and believe. Praise the Lord that Jesus continues to call sinners by name so that we can hear His voice, follow Him, and find life abundant and everlasting. (John 20.11-18) March 17, 2024
