Dead Boy Detectives, Renegade Nell and A Good Book – Reviews

This week, Clayton, Sam, and Tamzyn are back to bring us some fabulous new shows and book reviews.

Kicking things off with “Dead Boy Detectives,” a captivating spin-off from the Sandman series. Tamzyn advises savouring this series slowly, noting, “You know it’s good when you want to string it out.” On the flip side, Clayton insists it’s too good to pause, advocating for a binge-watch. The burning question: will the team agree with Sam and her plot hole discoveries? And is that magnificent neck tattoo real?

Next, the team dives into “Renegade Nell,” sparking lively discussions about its unique setting in the brief reign of Queen Anne in the 18th Century. The question on everyone’s mind, is the character of Nell based on a real person? The team all agree the show delivers magic intertwined with breathtaking fight scenes.

Finally, the Geeks indulge in their favourite pastime: discussing recent reads in “A Good Book.” They ponder the hierarchy of paper books, digital books, and audio books. It’s a treat for our ears as they delve into titles like “Bored Gay Werewolves,” “Moriarty and the Silent Order,” and “Ghost Station,” among others.

    Enjoy the fun!

Next up Clayton, Tamzyn and Sam review Beacon 23, and it’s unanimous. The series seemingly emerged out of nowhere, leaving everyone wondering why they hadn’t heard about it earlier. Every aspect of the series is a delightful surprise, prompting the question: is it possible that the series surpasses the book? Consistently engaging and filled with hope for the future of AI, the teams fascinating discussion delves into the intricacies of personal AI and its impact.

Clayton and Tamzyn then journey into the final series of Star Trek: Discovery, where each episode offers a unique experience with ample screen time for most characters. They also offer insightful advice on watching previous episodes from other series to enhance clarity on storylines. Fallout and Abigail Reviews.

This week Miranda and Clayton crawl through the wasteland in ‘Fallout’ and try to keep all their blood in one place with ‘Abigail’.

Will this video game adaptation of ‘Fallout’ get the seal of approval from a serious gamer? Is Clayton’s computer to powerful to play the game? Does this retro futurism game-based narrative pull apart our nostalgia goggles in a post-atomic/apocalyptic adventure? you will have to tune in to find out.

Abigail, in the meantime, is a whole lot of fun. This film is exactly what it says on the box: a fun, campy popcorn horror movie with bodies exploding like balloons and heads rolling galore!

What can we say, Abigail likes to play with her food!

    Enjoy!

X-Men ’97’, Invincible, and 1986’s ‘Transformers: The Movie’ – Reviews.

This week, it’s an all-in animation exploration with Miranda and Clayton. We kick things off with the iconic “X-Men ’97.” Does it still hold up to this day? The teams enthusiasm for the show’s return is palpable, as it leans heavily into nostalgia. However, it’s clear the show has evolved with its audience; it’s definitely not just for kids anymore—suitable for ages 14 and over.

Miranda defends Claytons right to be wrong on who is the best X Men.

Next up, “Invincible” earns Miranda’s stamp of approval. The question is are the heroes in this ultra-violent superhero series attempting something noble? The discussion reveals that the adaptation surpasses the source material and delves into why anime comics sometimes lack depth in minor characters. Additionally, it’s noted that the show’s violence exceeds Clayton’s usual preferences.

Then, we dive into “The Transformers: The Movie.” Is it merely a glorified toy commercial? Who cares when it’s so enjoyable to revisit? Dust off your Transformer toys, grab a bowl of popcorn, and indulge in this 1986 cinematic treat.

Miranda praises the movie’s bright, colourful, and relentless action, while Clayton affectionately describes it as a beautiful mess that’s a whole lot of fun.

Miranda would like to issues an apology for mistakenly stating the release date of “Transformers: The Movie” as 1984 instead of 1986 on air. For this ‘crime,’ Miranda has been sentenced to the planet Accurate, a forbidding interplanetary prison colony, to serve 1,000 years in repentance. However, with time off for great reviewing, Miranda will be back next week.

For all Anime fans, don’t miss this episode!

Civil War, Monkey Man and Road House – Reviews

Join Miranda and Tamzyn as they navigate the bloody carnage of three distinctly different films with violent themes.

Is “Civil War” merely a speculative documentary about a potential future America, or does it transcend mere speculation? Miranda and Tamzyn delve into the nuances of this visually striking alternate reality film, where war is depicted as a futile endeavour with no true victors.

Next up is “Money Man,” a film that clearly struck a chord with Miranda and Tamzyn, defying Hollywood conventions with its exceptional action sequences and commendable queer representation. This is unquestionably a film tailored for mature audiences.

Finally, we dive into “Road House,” an old-school action classic where every surface is fair game for a brawl. While the plot may be predictable, the film offers an enjoyable remake with its fair share of controversy.

Tune in as Miranda and Tamzyn provide witty, candid, and insightful commentary on a week filled with violent cinema.
