05.05.24 The Sermon on the Mount - Treasures in Heaven

05.05.24 The Sermon on the Mount - Treasures in Heaven

In Matthew 6:19-24, Jesus teaches heavenly treasures are of greater value than earthly possessions. We must learn to balance material needs with spiritual investments. He goes on to say that where one's treasure lies, there their heart follows, urging us to focus on serving God rather than being consumed by worldly desires. He also warns against allowing money to become a master, advocating instead for using it as a tool to glorify God and benefit others.

05.12.24 The Sermon on the Mount - Are You Really Saved?

05.12.24 The Sermon on the Mount - Are You Really Saved?

Jesus's teachings in Matthew 7 reveal three crucial truths: the path to eternal life is narrow and requires faith in Christ, false prophets can be recognized by their actions, and salvation is through relationship, not just religious deeds. Are you truly following Christ's path, discerning false teachings, and embracing a personal relationship with Him? It's not about religious actions but surrendering every part of our lives to Jesus.

04.21.24 The Sermon on the Mount - Dealing with Anger

04.21.24 The Sermon on the Mount - Dealing with Anger

Jesus doesn't mince words when discussing the Old Testament law. He shows us that its focus is on the condition of the heart. When our hearts are aligned with Jesus and our emotions are regulated, murder is not a concern. However, unchecked anger and prolonged rage can lead to harmful outcomes. Jesus knows that we are human and will make mistakes but commands us to seek immediate reconciliation.

04.14.24 The Sermon on the Mount - Fulfilling the Law

04.14.24 The Sermon on the Mount - Fulfilling the Law

Jesus clarifies that he didn't come to abolish the Law and the Prophets but to fulfill them. He emphasizes the importance of following God's commands and teaching others to do the same, stating that righteousness exceeding that of the scribes and Pharisees is necessary for entering the kingdom of heaven. Jesus has established a better covenant, one where God's teachings are written on the hearts of His people and forgiveness is offered for sins. The point is that while the law was good, Jesus brings something better. Ultimately, true righteousness surpasses human efforts and comes from Jesus, not our own works.

04.07.24 The Sermon on the Mount - How to be Blessed

As Pastor Russell begins a new series on the Sermon on the Mount, we look at Jesus' call to be countercultural. We understand that blessing comes not from wealth or materialism but from a heart that is fully devoted to God and life that is lived to honor Him.
