I am Chris Hardwick. This podcast used to be called Nerdist. Now it is not. It is still basically just me talking about stuff and things with my two nerdy friends Jonah Ray and Matt Mira when they’re available, and usually someone more famous and smarter than all of us. Swearing is still fun, so we still do that occasionally. I hope you like this new iteration which is the same as before, but if a name hangs you up unhealthily I’m sure you will not hesitate to unfurl your rage not only in the ‘reviews’ section but also now on all the various social media platforms that have popped up since we started in 2010, effectively murdering blogs.

Review from a young female director

Today I listened to your chat with Edgar Wright and then later the Sophia Coppola episode - I’m a huge fan of Edgar, but I don’t really know Sophia’s films. It meant so much to me to hear Edgar talk about the early days of his filmmaking, and articulately point out the limitations low budgets place on films. But then to hear Sophia talk was really interesting - I completely agree that she could gift more Q&A’s to the world, because as a young female director it meant a lot to hear your interview with her. Because she’s a female director she provides an alternate perspective to the profession that is so male-dominated. It wasn’t even anything she said specifically, but it was satisfying to hear her talk about her work, and how in-touch she is with the art she wants to create. I loved hearing her talk about how directing was a culmination of all the things she loved, and about how she ends up creating things because of her desire to see it through. Sometimes it’s hard to notice the lack of female voices in film, so it was nice to have it highlighted, but in a constructive and inspiring way. So, thanks!
