Interview with Sumeet Shendrikar, Services Director at RTI (part 2).

What I can look at though is, for a lot of companies they have to change a little bit of their DNA to go to this world. So I think it was Andreessen Horowitz, who said, you know, "Software is eating the world." And it was Jeffrey Immelt from G.E, who said, "You might wake up a manufacturing company today "But tomorrow you're gonna be a software company." So you have to look at core competencies in which countries are or which companies, in this case, the traditional automotive companies historically weren't software companies, the software was an afterthought, maybe for the infotainment system not really for the rest of the vehicle. Now they have to address that. They have to fix that problem. How do we become software people because we're no longer just assembling a vehicle? We're now a systems integrators, we have to bring together these different pieces to work in a way that makes sense, and that really is a problem that they have risk because it's a talent problem. It's a supply chain problem, it's a maintenance problem, it's an updates problem. You know, there's all these things come in when you start dealing with software. And so I think it's going to kind of depend on who creates an environment for that to happen as well.
