    Melbourne Live Show!

We took our nonsense to Melbourne and had an EXCELLENT time - Bird in Hand in hand obvi.

We’ve got some Breakin’ Nooz for ya, plus TWO stories!

Jacob gives Just The Gist on Lawrence Joseph Bader, otherwise known as John Fritz Johnson - a guy who faked his own death to escape his boring life OR got total amnesia one day, disappeared and became a local TV star in a different town. WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?

Rosie gives Jacob Just The Gist on COCAINE BEAR! Thought it was just a bear that died after eating a lot of cocaine in the 80s? Turns out there’s a lot more to it than that, involving a paratrooper called Andrew Thornton II, a massive drug smuggling operation, and Gucci Loafers.

We give you Just The Gist, but if you want more, there’s this:

    Forrest Fenn’s deadly treasure hunt

    Forrest Fenn’s deadly treasure hunt

If a wealthy old billionaire with a cartoonish name told you he’d hidden $2 million worth of treasure somewhere in a national park, would you actually believe him? More importantly, would you have a crack at trying to find that treasure for yourself?

When Forrest Fenn announced in 2010 that he’d hidden a bronze chest filled with jewels and gold in the Rocky Mountains, a lot of people did choose to believe, and they sure did have a crack at finding that treasure. Over the course of a decade, more than 350 000 people fulfilled their childhood fantasies of going on a real-life treasure, hoping to become instant millionaires.

The only clues to the chest’s location were laid out in a (terrible) poem Forrest had included in his memoir. Sounds like a recipe for a whimsical, joyful adventure, right?

Well… the hunt turned out to be quite a destructive force to not only the environment, but to the treasure hunters themselves. People were very seriously injured, and several of them even lost their lives. Plus the legal system quickly became clogged with lawsuits (because: America), and the constant suing really sucked a lot of the fun out of the whole thing.

We give you Just The Gist, but if you want more, there's this:

Have a read of this 1986 People Magazine article about Forrest Fenn’s gallery and lifestyle https://people.com/archive/rivals-scorn-his-santa-fe-gallery-but-forrest-fenn-baskets-the-cash-vol-25-no-23/

Visit Fenn’s Clues - a website dedicated to deciphering the poem and locating the treasure  http://fennclues.com/the-poem.html

Check out this article about the hunt, published in 2012 when it started to go mainstream https://www.newsweek.com/forrest-fenn-wants-you-find-his-treasure-and-his-bones-64427

Here's a great article about Fenn’s life and the treasure hunt, written shortly after his death https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/sep/16/buried-treasure-forrest-fenn-rockies

The Woman Whose Entire Face Was Ripped Off By A Chimp

The Woman Whose Entire Face Was Ripped Off By A Chimp

Yeah... not much else we can title this one, really. Travis the Chimp was treated like a son by his owners Sandy and Jerry. They bought him as a pet when he was just three days old, and raised him like a human. Seriously - by the time he was ten, he had favourite TV shows, helped mow the lawn, loved drinking wine, and could even drive a car. But no matter how domesticated he became, Travis was still, at the end of the day, a wild animal. And that became all too clear the day a call came through to the Connecticut 911: “HELP PLEASE! HE... HE RIPPED HER FACE OFF!”

Probably even more shocking is that the woman Travis attacked SURVIVED. (And obviously went on Oprah, in what is now remembered as one of her most harrowing, famous interviews: with a woman forced to wear a veil because she no longer had a face.)
We give you Just The Gist, but if you want more, there’s this:

Read an in-depth article from New York magazine about Travis's life: https://nymag.com/news/features/70830/

The Marvel movie that was too embarrassing to release

The Marvel movie that was too embarrassing to release

Marvel movies may be the biggest money-making blockbusters in the world today, but back in 1994, they made one that was SO bad, when studio bosses saw the final cut, they decided they would never, ever release it to the public. It was just that... embarrassing. It was an attempt at a Fantastic Four movie, and after how disastrously it went, Marvel bosses desperately tried to keep it a secret, even banning current Marvel stars from ever talking about it. So how exactly does that happen? How does an entire superhero movie filmed in Hollywood end up so bad it can't even be released?

And can you watch it today? (Yes. Yes you can.)

We give you Just The Gist, but if you want more, there's this:

Watch the full-length, unreleased 1994 film here:

Wallis Simpson and the Royal Abdication

Wallis Simpson and the Royal Abdication

Before Prince Harry decided to jump ship with Meghan Markle, there was one other guy who decided to quit the Royal family. King Edward VIII fell in love with a divorced American woman back in 1936, and when the Royal family treated her like crap, he quit ‘The Firm’ and left the country with her for good. SOUND FAMILIAR?

With Harry and Meghan spilling all the tea in their Oprah interview this week, we thought this was the perfect time to get just the gist on the other Royal couple everyone keeps comparing them to: Wallis and Edward.

We give you Just The Gist, but if you want more there’s this:

The audiobook with awesome narration that Rosie listened to: Untitled: The Real Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor by Anna Pasternak https://www.harpercollins.com.au/9780008297312/untitled-the-real-wallis-simpson-duchess-of-windsor/

The book with details about all their Nazi connections: 17 Carnations by Andrew Morton https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22313811-17-carnations

This book is veeeery long and detailed but good:The Crown in Crisis: Countdown to the Abdication by Alexander Larman https://www.hachette.com.au/alexander-larman/the-crown-in-crisis-countdown-to-the-abdication

Filmed interview with Wallis and Edward where they spill some tea (kind of like their Oprah interview at the time): https://youtu.be/I02fZDd-BBc

    Some documentaries:

    Wallis Before Edward: https://youtu.be/aOBm305ooVQ

The Love Affair That Almost Destroyed Britain (Wallis Simpson: The Secret Letters): https://youtu.be/Swd3ISRF_wY
