E156. Do these things to improve you babies mental health

E156. Do these things to improve you babies mental health

How you can influence your baby’s mental health and development
     With Dr Amanda Gummer  amanda@goodplayguide

Building close relationships and bonding as a new parent reduces the likelihood of mental health difficulties throughout your child’s life. The newborn time is a critical period of social and emotional development and new research highlights many parents are unaware of the link between their baby’s good mental health and early childhood development.
I am excited to be joined by this week’s guest, Dr Amanda Gummer who is a child development expert and is working on a new government campaign - Start for Life’s ‘if they could tell you’ – this has launched to support parents to help build secure bonds to help nurture their baby’s future mental health.
This brilliant campaign can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/start-for-life-campaign-if-they-could-tell-you

E155. Do these things to keep your baby healthy

How to help your newborn baby’s health
    With Dr Lillie Parker

Before you know it, your baby is here and then your mind quickly switches to consider how to look after your new baby as well as possible. A key part of this is learning what is and is not normal so you can seek support as early as possible to help keep your baby healthy.
I am really looking forward to speaking today with Dr Lillie Parker @doctor.lils, who is a Paediatric Registrar with lots of experience caring for newborn babies and supporting parents to look after their little ones in the healthiest way.

E154. How to Bond with Your Baby

E154. How to Bond with Your Baby

Bonding with your baby With Annie Ramsay-Stagg

Bonding with your new baby is an important part of your baby’s development and wellbeing as well as yours as a new mum but
it doesn’t mean it always happens naturally or easily. The reassuring thing is there are ways you can help support it.
This week I am joined by Annie Ramsay-Stagg who is a Local Campaigns Officer for @nspcc_official. Annie supports new parents to build their baby’s brain right from birth through encouraging positive early attachments and she is joining me today to explain how we can support bonding, where to get support and why it is important for you and your newborn.

Below are links to the resources mentioned in this episode:
    ·      HERE is the parenting advice section for articles on bonding, sleep, crying, tantrums and everything in-between.
    ·      HERE is the Look, Say, Sing, Play tips for parents.

E153. How to get your baby to take a bottle

E153. How to get your baby to take a bottle

Bottle Refusal in Breastfed Babies With Bec Hodgson
So you nail your breastfeeding and decide to introduce a bottle to your baby, either expressed breast or formula milk. Perhaps you are returning to work or required to be away from baby for a period of time. You’ve seen videos of babies happily sucking away on a bottle and expect the same from your little one. But they say no thank you to the bottle and you find yourself purchasing every bottle going in desperation. I am speaking from personal experience here, you are most definitely not alone, bottle refusal can feel both frustrating and challenging.
This week I am joined by Bec Hodgson, a Lactation Consultant and practicing midwife. I am also delighted that Bec is the resident Lactation consultant on my Exclusive YPJ Course at Midwife Pip and if there is someone who knows plenty about the issue of bottle refusal in breastfed babies it is Bec so I am delighted to be picking her brains on here for you all today.
