Today, the word follower means so many different things, especially since the dawn of social media. Twitter, Instagram and Facebook create a world for you to follow whatever interests you or follow ideas that you support. But what does it mean to follow Jesus? We've placed a lot of conditions of how a follower of Jesus should be. But what does Jesus say about this? Can you remember a time when you planned to do something, start something or go somewhere, and - it didn't turn out as planned? Not so hard to imagine isn't it? The year 2020 is a great example. Maybe you decided to start to join the gym, travel the world, meet new friends and now, this global pandemic has brought all that, to a stop. So what happens when things don't go as planned? What happens to our faith when things don't go as planned. It's easy to have faith when everything goes according to plan but when it doesn't what happens to your faith? Most of us pray right? Even if you don't pray regularly, you eventually pray when you are in need of something. Probably you pray in times of emergency, or even uncertainty. But by now we know that all prayer don't get answered. And there are different reasons for this, but one reason of unanswered prayer is a lack of faith. Jesus, himself says in Matthew 21: 22 (ESV) : "Whatever you ask for in prayer, you will receive IF you have faith." God is asking the church a serious question about faith, and not 'the' faith. Not Christianity, not faith the noun, but faith the verb. For too long we've been defending and fighting for the faith. We've fought wars and battles to defend our faith, and fighting for your faith is not bad at all. In fact it’s a good thing. But I wonder if you're only fighting for your faith and not really walking in faith. Because the world sees Christians as people who only fight for their faith but don’t live by faith.
