Linda Taylor was a con artist, a kidnapper, maybe even a murderer. She was also America’s original “welfare queen,” the villain Ronald Reagan needed to create a vision of a country being taken advantage of by its poorest citizens. In The Queen, Josh Levin reveals the never-before-told story of a woman whose singular life was forgotten in the rush to create a vicious American stereotype. Each season of Slate Presents brings you a new narrative mini-series.

We get it. You want us to sign up to Slate Plus

A great premise for a podcast with a well researched and edited flow... what is rather frustrating is the almost constant prompts to “sign up to slate plus to hear even more of this or that interview”. We hear you. But you either want to create a well rounded podcast for the masses and reward a smaller, highly engaged audience with BTS content on a paid platform with a few gentle pushes to do so... or turn everyone off by cutting interviews short and asking the audience to sign up to hear more. I felt Slow Burn got the balance of this right... but this podcast needs to stop coming in so hot.
