Great guests but host ruins it

The host is doing a great thing with this podcast and her heart is in the right place. But it’s very unprofessional and thus frustrating for the listener and I’m unsubscribing. It’s virtually unlistenable. Some suggestions for the host:

Don’t ever interrupt your guest. You aren’t actually having a conversation here; you are carefully guiding the interviewee to reveal themselves, which means you stay as quiet as possible. You don’t need to respond after everything they say - they have finished talking. You can just ask another question.

Listen to the top podcasters and radio professionals. They don’t make interjections, “ah”, “hmmm”, “right”, “oooh” “oh my gosh” “wow” and shock, etc. These are so frustrating for the listener that I can never listen to one for more than a few minutes, and am unsubscribing. Max Linsky at Longform is a good example of doing this well. Let them TALK!!! Every sound you make is interrupting them and adjusting the train of their thought. You can even hear how annoyed some of the guests are by this. You don’t need to mirror them.

The fan-girling is off-putting. You can be excited for a guest, but try to be professional, put jokes aside, and approach your podcasting calmly.

You literally have a direct line to your listener’s brain - consider every single sound you make and whether it’s necessary. It’s usually not.
