Episode 42 - “There is more to Stuttering than Stuttering” - with Geoff Johnston.

Episode 42 released - “There is more to Stuttering than Stuttering” - with Geoff Johnston.

The first episode of a two part “Christmas bonus” special. Former McGuire Program Australia/NZ regional director Geoff Johnston shares has lifetime of experiences and reflects on wider aspects of stuttering and ways to gain speech control. In this episode, Geoff reflects on: his school experiences, how traditional speech therapy was a positive experience, habits that foster stuttering behaviour, factors that may trigger a stutter if one has a predisposition to stuttering, a suggested definition of a “cure to stuttering”, and overcoming the negative thoughts we may have. In addition, Geoff presents four useful points to consider when we stutter, his definition of fear, what to focus on when giving a public speech.

Geoff presents a suggested way of thinking about what triggers our stuttering, how we interpret the world around us and the process leading to a stutter.

Geoff continues with a passionate defence of voluntary stuttering and the benefits of this, followed by a discussion of the interlocks between disclosures and voluntary stuttering.

Finally, a great story about Geoff’s involvement in a bookshop that changed a community.
