Our farewell announcement & disability inclusion with Erin Kyan

Our dear Revolters, there’s no easy way to say this, so here goes: The Gays Are Revolting will be going on an indefinite hiatus at the end of this month. We’ve had such an incredible time making this show and sharing not only our own stories, but the stories of the inspiring queer community members we’ve featured over the last two years. Today we released our 98th episode, and it’s been a dream from day one to hit 100. We’re pushing that number to 101, and we promise our last few episodes will be some of our best. It’s not goodbye forever, but it is farewell for now.

In this week’s episode, we discuss how the show has impacted our lives, as well as bring you an exceptional conversation with trans artist, poet, zine-maker and podcast-producer Erin Kyan, who chats to us about the experience of dating as a disabled person, how he continues to celebrate his body despite societal expectations, and how local queer nightlife venues can do better in disability inclusion. A must hear for any queer event producers!

And in this week's After Show we're joined by Dylan O'Hara from Vixen Collective to discuss the fight to decriminalise sex work in Victoria and how the local queer sex work community has been impacted by COVID-19. To our Patrons, we hope you’ll join us for one final live stream on Thursday 20th of August (after we record our final episode). It’s your financial support that has helped us achieve over 100 episodes of The Gays Are Revolting, and we couldn’t be more grateful for your pink cash dollars.

Mask 4 Mask with Dr. George & queer legal services with lawyer Sam Elkin

This week we’re joined by community lawyer Sam Elkin to discuss Victoria's first LGBTIQ legal service, how our queerness intersects with the law, and the various ways queer, trans and gender diverse people can still be discriminated against within employment and housing. Dr. George is also back to chat through Victoria’s mandated masks, implications for people with facial hair and other local COVID-19 developments, and sticks around to answer your listener questions in our After Show! Topics include: managing OCD symptoms, sex therapy, PrEP for trans and gender diverse people and much more. Sign up at patreon.com/gaysrevoltingpod for access.

    Lipp Selects: Heckin' Concerned

    Lipp Selects: Heckin' Concerned

Being a millennial isn’t easy – our climate is warming, our social lives are being mediated by technology and the internet, and politicians are out of sync with what we want. Contrary to the popular narrative about millennials being entitled snowflakes, we're faced with challenges that previous generations would never have imagined. In Heckin' Concerned, Amruta speaks with smart and sensitive people about topics that scare millennials, and how to find some hope amongst the endless smashed avocado.

In this episode, Amruta interviews Edie Shepherd, activist and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Organiser at the Victorian Trades Hall Council. They discuss growing up as an Aboriginal kid in a predominantly white school system, racism, gender, sexuality and queerness, dating as a queer Indigenous millennial, politics, and using social media to connect young Indigenous people with their cultures.

Heckin' Concerned is a new addition to the Lipp Media network, celebrating the voices of women and the LGBT+ community.

Over-sexualisation & the Tasty nightclub raid with Gavin Campbell

Over-sexualisation & the Tasty nightclub raid with Gavin Campbell

To discuss what many refer to as Melbourne’s Stonewall, today we’re joined by creator of queer nightclub 'Tasty' Gavin Campbell to talk through the infamous police raid that occurred in his club in 1994, and the class action lawsuit against Victoria Police that resulted. We also discuss inappropriate questions straight people ask us and the media’s tendency to over-sexualise gay people.

In this week's After Show we chat through the tragic passing of Naya Rivera, the so-called "Glee curse" and the show's lasting queer legacy.

Coronavirus conspiracies & compulsive sexual behaviour with psychologist Marcus Squirrell

Coronavirus conspiracies & compulsive sexual behaviour with psychologist Marcus Squirrell

This week we’re joined by queer psychologist Dr. Marcus Squirrell to discuss compulsive sexual behaviour, including its links to internalised homophobia and more frequent encounters of cheating, as well as how shame is experienced by people dealing with sexual compulsions during the pandemic. We also chat about Melbourne’s renewed coronavirus battle and some of the crazier COVID-related misinformation floating about (no, Bill Gates isn't using nasal swabbing tests to implant microchips into the back of your throat). And in this week's After Show we discuss Facebook's hate speech dilemma and the fall out of the Stop Hate For Profit campaign. A gay man's guide to life & new queer films with Paul Mizzi from The Swapcast Podcast

This week we chat to queer author Britt East about his new book A Gay Man’s Guide To Life. We’re also joined by Paul Mizzi from The Swapcast Podcast to chat to us about queer films that have flown under our radar over the last few years.

And in this week’s After Show we throw around our thoughts on All Stars 5 and Canada’s Drag Race.

Literally fallen in love with these intelligent, funny, sensitive and woke boys. I feel like it's made me a better G and has exposed me to facets of LGBTI life I have not frequently encountered. Come do a live show in NZ!!
