    Ep 100: 100th Episode!

    Ep 100: 100th Episode!

The Movie Robcast reaches its 100th episode! In a bumper edition, Robs Daniel & Wallis recount favourite movie watching memories, oddest trips to the cinema, the dangers of revisiting cherished films… and the dangers of comparing themselves to Simon & Garfunkel.

Excitingly, past contributors Ian & Ronan Bird, Jasen Govinden, Sarah Johnson, Tessa Scott and Adrian Zak also sent through movie thoughts. All are wonderful, so huge thanks to them for taking time to make the episode better than it would be have been with just the Robs blathering.

Ian & Ronan Bird can be heard from 26:52

Tessa Scott can be heard from 44:33

Adrian Zak can be heard from 01.04.55

Jasen Govinden (and his daughter Amelie) can be heard from 01:22:30

Sarah Johnson can be heard from 01.31.25

The Robs kick off the episode with a swift review of another beloved movie double act, Bill & Ted, who have returned after almost 30 years to Face the Music. Was this encore worth the wait?

Many thanks as always to our dear listeners. If you like what you hear and have not yet rated and reviewed us, why not take a minute to leave us a star rating and a few words. Thanks!

Ep 99: Mulan (2020) (and I'm Thinking of Ending Things)

Ep 99: Mulan (2020) (and I'm Thinking of Ending Things)

The Movie Robcast reaches episode 99! And in the final double digit episode before we boldly to get into three figures (*gasp*) Robs Daniel and Wallis cast an eye over Disney’s live action Mulan remake.

The pair were really rather impressed with the 1998 animated version when reviewing it back on episode 87. So, what do they make of this $200m reimagining that has bypassed cinemas to premiere on Disney+? With a £19.99 price tag…

Their chat dives deep into what’s hot and what’s not in the film, plus Hong Kong action movies, that 1998 original, plus the online calls for a boycott of the movie following star Yifei Liu’s controversial comments about the Hong Kong protests.

Then, Rob Wallis delivers his verdict on Charlie Kaufman’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things, which has premiered on Netflix. The Twittersphere declared it a headscratcher of Tenet proportions, but what does Mr. Wallis think?

    Enjoy… and xièxiè(or thank you)!

Ep 98: Tenet (and The New Mutants)

Ep 98: Tenet (and The New Mutants)

Episode 98 of The Movie Robcast is a bumper episode, taking a close look at Tenet and ending with a review of the long-delayed X-Men movie, The New Mutants.

Excitingly, joining us for this ep is on demand movie manager Jasen Govinden to give his opinions on Christopher Nolan’s time-twisting head scratcher.

We open with a tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who tragically passed on August 28th. Best known for Black Panther, Boseman left many impressive performances, most recently in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods.

RIP Chadwick Boseman, an actor who will be greatly missed.

    Ep 97: Inception - 10th Anniversary Special

    Ep 97: Inception - 10th Anniversary Special

In episode 97 of The Movie Robcast, Robs Daniel & Wallis are joined by the dreamy Mr. Ian Bird for a 10th anniversary discussion of Christopher Nolan’s Inception.

The three dive deep into Nolan’s dream world, discussing its roots in the heist movie, how it fits into Nolan’s filmography, what is good about it, what is *gasp* not so good about it, and why it endures a decade later.

And it’s not just because of the “bwaaaahhhhs”…

Rob D also has to apologise to his mum for an oversight in the Greyhound episode and Rob W slaps Rob and Ian’s legs for going off on one tangent too many. Rob W also has the best Nolan pun in history. Something that will never be bettered…

Thanks for listening and hopefully we’ll be talking about Tenet in the next episode… bwaaaaahhhhh!

Ep 96: Greyhound & Palm Springs (feat. The Old Guard)

Ep 96: Greyhound & Palm Springs (feat. The Old Guard)

Episode 96 of The Movie Robcast looks at two very different films, both of which bypassed cinemas due to Coronavirus to premiere on streaming services.

Tom Hanks’ Greyhound tells the World War 2 tale of a captain having to steer a convoy of ships through U-boat infested waters in the North Atlantic. And, excitingly, friend of the podcast Adrian Zak cameos to give his opinion on this lean, impressive naval thriller which has docked on Apple TV+.

Then onto Palm Springs, an imaginative spin on the Groundhog Day premise starring Andy Samberg, Cristin Milioti and J.K. Simmons, and which can be found on Hulu. The Palm Springs discussion begins at 55.55.

Rob Wallis also took one for the team and watched The Old Guard, starring Charlize Theron and which just dropped on Netflix.

    Ep 95: Hamilton

    Ep 95: Hamilton

Episode 95 of The Movie Robcast sees our intrepid casters in pod venturing once more into London’s West End early on a sunny Sunday morning. And finding Leicester Square to be a rather noisier place than they’d anticipated. While dodging rustling papers, dustbin lorries and street cleaning buggies, they have a social distanced conversation about the Hamilton film, now available on Disney+.

They also make time to discuss the state of UK theatre, online virtual theatres, and the recently revealed plans for this year’s London Film Festival.

They know stuff about films

Never in your life, no matter where you live, be it Southern England, Germany, Dubai, or the far flung reaches of the Amazon, will you ever meet two Robs who know more about cinema, than these two. And if you were to meet two Robs in the far flung reaches of the Amazon, that would be a cool story too.
