The beauty of real experiences

"Veneers is a podcast about layers hosted and created by Katie Perry and Alice Anderson. Each episode we look at the layers of narrative that inform everyday experiences and shape the people around us.”
The opening of every episode sets the scene for the uniqueness of the Veneers experience. Perry and Anderson focus on a single topic per episode but rather than a narrow perspective they introduce the listener to many different voices. Veneers strength is that it embraces complexity and allows differing views to stand equally together within their podcast narrative.

My current favourite is ‘Mother’ which seeks to investigate questions such as who is a mother? How do mothers influence our lives? How does motherhood change a woman? What informs the decision to continue as a mother? The answers are in the many stories told and the many voices speaking for the listener to find. However, there isn’t one answer to a question. Such is the magic of Veneers, they provide the complicated reality.

I have never been big on podcasts, but this is the single podcast that has changed my mind. It’s focused, complex, measured and open to interpretation. It’s not telling you want to think or how to think, it’s telling you to consider that there is more than one voice, more than one story and it feels as if they have gathered your friends and family together to tell you all about it.
