    Episode 7 - Gregory Pryor

    Episode 7 - Gregory Pryor

Gregory Pryor comes to The Vivian for his first ever solo show with us, Dragging Tail, which is on until January 7th in the Studio Gallery.

This show explores the landscapes and deep historical legacies that come with it – through the lens of imaginary (and possibly real) historical characters plotting and navigating their way, with various degrees of success and tragedy, through a landscape at once alien and forbidding.

Recorded live during the artist's Q and A session, this Vivian Podcast explores the nature of his work, and some of the works in this magical, mysterious show.

Thanks to Greg for taking part in this podcast. Greg’s show is on until 7 January. – You can also see a short film recorded during this session on The Vivian website – at https://thevivian.co.nz/films

    Episode 5 - Wayne Youle

    Episode 5 - Wayne Youle

Wayne Youle is one of New Zealand’s most exciting artists. Unpredictable. Mischievous. Yet profoundly serious in his intent to confront us with the big questions of what art can be on a fundamental level – by creating it, rather than just theorising about it.

His show in the South Gallery, ‘Here I give thanks’ is on the one level a colourful homage to his favourite artists, but also a deeply personal exploration of his family and is role as a father.

Episode 3 - Rupert Herring - The Avenue Where The Silhouettes Pass

Rupert’s work traverses a fine line between woodworking, furniture design and sculpture. Toying with our ideas of colonialism and history while exploring what it means to be a New Zealander today, Rupert’s work is also often deeply personal. Here, Rupert talks to us about his work, and the continual tension between form and function in his practice.

Episode 2 - Grace Wright – You and Your Resolve

It’s rare to uncover a new style of painting in New Zealand and Grace Wright delivers a whole show of it in ‘You and Your Resolve’ - which runs from 6 July to the 25 August 2019.

And in This Vivian Podcast - she joins us in The North Gallery with Scott Lawrie and a small audience for a Vivian Artist talk – followed by questions and answers from the audience.

Thanks to Grace Wright for taking part in this event, and to Parlour Projects in Hawkes Bay.
