Edison believed DC was safer and tried to show that AC was dangerous by shocking animals in public demonstrations. Tesla, working with George Westinghouse, promoted AC because it could send electricity over long distances more efficiently. In the end, AC's ability to transmit power over greater distances won, thanks to Tesla's innovations.
