We developed our inner saboteurs when we were younger and more vulnerable to adjust to and survive our environments. As we grow older and are more resourceful, we can tap into our values and aspirations to choose how to respond to our situation.

We more easily harm the ones closest to us, precisely because they are closest. Understanding the difference between human, universal needs and idiosyncratic strategies can help prevent that.
