    Episode 255 – Our 2nd 1st Race Preview Of 2020

    Episode 255 – Our 2nd 1st Race Preview Of 2020

It’s finally here, we’ve got a Grand Prix to preview over 3 months after the aborted attempt to run the Australian Grand Prix at the start of the Covid pandemic. F1 has been working to get some cars on track once the time and conditions were right in certain locations to be able to put something on. We know it’s not going to be what we’re used to, with no fans and 2 races on consecutive weekends at the same circuit. But from Friday we’ll see this years cars on track for the first time since Pre-Season testing finished in February.

Also this week’s show is a return to some form of normality for us as well, for the first time since March we’ve been able to get together to record the show, so no Skype lags and connection drops outs this time!

There’s a full podcast this week, with not only a preview of the Austrian GP, but also a look at all the last minute news ahead of the race with Mercedes & Williams launching their new liveries (bet Codemasters are really happy about that 1 week before the 2020 game comes out), a ray of financial hope for McLaren and loads more.

There’s also the (re)launch of our prediction league that you can take part in at  https://3legs4wheels.com/2020-grand-prix-prediction-league/  and our own predictions as well along with a Who’s A Total Shunt that Paul had to write at the last minute when we found out that Lee wasn’t going to be on this week’s show.

Episode 254 – The End Of Our Lockdown

Episode 254 – The End Of Our Lockdown

1st off, we’re really sorry about last week’s disastrous attempts to get a show recorded, between work commitments and 2 (TWO) mixing desks that were DOA there was nothing we could pull together. But even though the new desk hasn’t arrived yet, we’ve managed to get the old one working for one more time (with feeling) and it’s the last of our lockdown shows before F1 comes back in less than 2 weeks time and now that the Isle of Man has announced that it is Covid-19 free, we are able to get together and go back to our usual shows where we’re all in the same room.

This week on the podcast we look at the last bits of news before the teams start to decamp to Austria before the season opener at the RedBull ring on July 5th, so it’s a sort of preview of a preview if you will. There’s a few things on the perilous state of team finances and futures among the grid, a look at what teams have done to get some cars on track to get the drivers used to being behind a wheel that isn’t attached to a sim and a few more tangents, along with the usual Who’s A Total Shunt and this week’s  iRacing race.

Episode 253 – It’s All In The Name

Episode 253 – It’s All In The Name

So we now know the dates, locations and names of the first 8 races of the 2020 season when it gets going in just over 3 weeks time and we’re not having 2 Austrian and 2 British Grands Prix. Instead we’re getting the “Formula 1 Pirelli Grosser Preis der Steiermark” at the RedBull Ring and the ” Emirates Formula 1 70th Anniversary Grand Prix ” at Silverstone. The names are important, especially in the case of the 2nd Silverstone race as it’s not a British Grand Prix so it doesn’t need to be shown on free to air TV in the UK, as the British Grand Prix (held the week before) does.

This week on the podcast we take a look round the latest F1 news with the season almost ready to get going and a look at a couple of developments for the future with the announcement that the 2019 will now be on the cars until the end of the 2021 season and more besides.

There’s all the usual stuff as well with a bit about our new found love of iRacing and of course a Who’s A Total Shunt and a special nostalgic ending to the show that we’ve not dare listen to for about 3 1/2 years!

Episode 252 – Have The Glory Days Gone For Good?

Episode 252 – Have The Glory Days Gone For Good?

Another week closer to the start of the 2020 season and we’re now worried how many car we’ll see on the grid when we kick things off in Austria in just under 5 weeks time. This week Williams released their annual financial statement and announced that not only had they parted company with title sponsors Rokit, but also that they were considering ” “various strategic options… including but not limited to raising new capital for the business, a divestment of a minority stake in Williams Grand Prix Holdings, or a divestment of a majority stake in WGPH including a potential sale of the whole company”.

This week on the podcast we look at what the options could be for the struggling Grove outfit as their lack of success over the past few years, combined with the economic uncertainty in the current situation really starts to bite. Also on the show we do get a bit more positive as it looks like Silverstone will be hosting the 4th & 5th rounds of this year’s F1 championship and the prospect of reverse grids at the double header races has also been discussed by the teams.

There a round up of all the other F1 news stories and the usual tangents with a Who’s A Total Shunt, details of our next iRace this weekend and the last of the interim Formula Lee races before we take a break with it before the new game comes out at the start of July.

Episode 251 – Hope The Schedule Was Written In Pencil

Episode 251 – Hope The Schedule Was Written In Pencil

Another week and another change to the 2020 F1 season. After the UK Government announced that anyone entering the country after June 8th has to isolate for 14 days, the planned British Grand(s?) Prix have been thrown into doubt from their original dates of July 19th & 26th as the restrictions may still be in force at that point. So now we’re looking at replacements for those races and it seems that we may be getting 2 races on consecutive weekend at the Hungaroring.

Also this week on the podcast we look at other news from around the (virtual) paddock with hopefully only 5 weeks to go until some form of F1 season starts. We talk about changes at Aston Martin (the car makers, not the F1 team to be), potential changes at Aston Martin (the F1 team to be, not the car makers), Renault’s latest rumours, a finally agreed budget cap and loads more about F1 & sim racing.

No Formula Lee update this week as Paul’s got a new laptop and still hasn’t sorted the spreadsheets out on it yet, so you’ve got an extra week to get your times for Monaco in the wet in the 2019 McLaren in. There’s the 3rd leg in our iRacing Triple Crown though with the Belgian (Monaco isn’t in the game) Grand Three (check the website and Discord for more details) and a Who’s a total shunt where (spoiler alert) Lee manages to get the name right!

    Stay safe.

Episode 250 – Here Come The Sainz Bit

Episode 250 – Here Come The Sainz Bit

What a week last week was, we thought we’d peaked with the official Tuesday News about Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari parting company and we’d have to wait for details on his replacements and the start of the Silly Season. Turns out that by the end of Wednesday, things had already fallen into place with Carlos Sainz being announced at Ferrari and Daniel Ricciardo moving from Renault to be Saniz’s replacement at McLaren.

This week on the podcast we look at how we think the moving drivers will work out with their new teams and what will happen to Vettel’s career from 2021 along with who’s going to take the vacant seat at the Enstone team next year (you can guess who one of us thinks it will be).

There’s also an update on how the delayed 2020 season is looking so far with the announcement that the dates for the opening 4 races are confirmed, although the venue of the 3rd & 4th races is still up in the air as they are scheduled for Silverstone, but only depending on UK Govt regulations.

There’s all the other usual stuff as well with a Who’s A Total Shunt, a Formula Lee reminder (2019 McLaren in the wet in Monaco) and the official launch of the 2nd leg of the 3L4W iRacing triple crown with the 90 minutes of Le Mans this weekend.

For the first time since the end of testing we can say that there’s more F1 in this show than anything else, and thanks to James Mather for this week’s show title. So keep checking out Tweets and our Discord server for more news as it comes out. And while we’re still on lockdown our Patreon subscribers get the show 2 days early and can even stream it live as we record it.
