Ep. 232: Under The Grunge Part 6

Captain Content laced up his Doc Martins and led us over to the Pacific Northwest to the land of everything GRUNGE! How is it possible that we are on our 6th ep in this series and we still haven’t played a single note of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam??? Ep. 231: R.I.P. Steve Albini featuring Chris L from Pod Of Thunder

Ep. 231: R.I.P. Steve Albini featuring Chris L from Pod Of Thunder

It is with heavy hearts that we deliver this week’s episode honoring the passing of a true recording innovator and master of his craft: the amazing Mr. Steve Albini. Our good friend and fellow podcasting brother, Chris L joins us from the awesome Pod Of Thunder podcast. We knew we needed someone who represented the region of the country Steve was from and where he did most of his work; a magical faraway place called Chicagoland. Chris was a musician in the Chicago scene in the 90s when Albini’s “production” was soaring, and his recordings were impacting the rock and alternative world hugely. This a tough loss, as Albini’s ability to capture the true essence of a real rock n’ roll band was second to none.

Ep. 230: Metal Thrashing Mad II

Ep. 230: Metal Thrashing Mad II

Meet Captain Content in the pit this week for a hella good time! We’re getting our aggression by revisiting the starting point of Kevin’s music fandom. The thrash, crossover, and speed metal movement of the 80s spawned his love of all things rock n’ punk n’ metal. Once again, we will not be covering the Big 4 of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax; but if you love them, then you will love this bunch.

Ep. 229: Grave Mistake: SPACEHOG Shoulda Been Huge!!!

Ep. 229: Grave Mistake: SPACEHOG Shoulda Been Huge!!!

This week we present another installment of our ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. We’re talking about a 90’s band that most consider a 1 hit wonder alternative group. SPACEHOG is much more than most give them credit for. They were a unique band that carried the flag more for classic 70’s glam and power pop than alternative & grunge. If you are a fan of Bowie, Queen, Iggy Pop, or T.Rex, you owe it to yourself to listen to the SPACEHOG catalog. The countdown has begun, it’s 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and baby we’re a SPACEHOG!

Ep. 228: Forgotten Fossils - Classic Rock in the Alternative Age pt. II

Ep. 228: Forgotten Fossils - Classic Rock in the Alternative Age pt. II

This week Capt. Content reminds us that something unique happened in the 90s with “Classic Rock” radio where they completely omitted any new contributions musically from the bands. In the 90’s, the “Legacy Act” tag hadn’t hit yet and bands were still trying to be true to themselves, but still be relevant. We’re playing the Lost and Forgotten songs released during the Alternative Rock era from bands that we all know and love.
