The One About Reframing The Way We Think About & Treat Eating Disorders With Kyla Fox

The One About Reframing The Way We Think About & Treat Eating Disorders With Kyla Fox

After we were both featured in the same article that went viral, I knew I needed to sit down and get some expert conversations flowing about dieting, recovery and how we can be better supporters in that arena. Kyla Fox has established herself as a visionary and innovator, when it comes to re-framing the way Canadians think about and treat eating disorders. As someone who struggled herself with an eating disorder, Fox identified care gaps and fundamental flaws in the treatment and recovery approach. Kyla is a Master’s level clinician with degrees from both the University of Toronto in the Master’s of Social Work program as well as an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Women’s Studies. Kyla is a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers and is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. She is also a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders and the National Eating Disorders Association. With such deep and varied experience in the field, Kyla is regularly called on by Canada’s top media outlets as a special commentator on a broad list of topics, including: eating disorders, self-esteem, women’s health, body image, pregnancy and body confidence and more. Kyla and The Kyla Fox Centre were also recently highlighted on Gwyneth Paltrow’s highly acclaimed lifestyle website Goop.

The One About Divorce, Remarriage & Cultural Boundaries With Huda Alvi

If you visit Huda Alvi’s Instagram page you’ll see the words “Brown Girl Breaking Stigmas One Caption At A Time”, and this conversation with her is no different. Huda takes us through her own journey through marriage, divorce, the impact of it all on her family and then remarriage with a blended family. Huda is a wealth of life experience, and perspective that not many of us are often aware of when it comes to racial and cultural differences on topics as simple as dating, and as devastating as divorce. These conversations aren’t always comfortable to have, but Huda navigates them oh-so-well. She’s smart, honest, and approachable.

The One Where We Discuss A Commonly Undiagnosed Disorder with Leslie Mosier (aka Doug The Pug’s Mom!)

The One Where We Discuss A Commonly Undiagnosed Disorder with Leslie Mosier (aka Doug The Pug’s Mom!)

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, and it felt important to bring this topic to the podcast. With the diagnosis of endo taking often up to a decade, and too often it’s symptoms being called “normal” this was an opportunity for us to learn from another’s story so we are encouraged to become advocates for ourselves and our health. That’s where Leslie comes in. She’s young, cool as hell, and the mom to the world’s most famous pug, Doug. Her life is absolutely insane, from red carpets, a toy line, super bowl commercials and then to suffering in pain with this crippling disorder.
Leslie shares her experience with endometriosis and how online community helped her along the way, and why she hopes to continue to spread awareness, including through music and her own online platform.

The One Where We Talk About A Beautiful Mess & More With Elsie Larson

The One Where We Talk About A Beautiful Mess & More With Elsie Larson

As one of the original internet home bloggers, Elsie Larson is well known for her style, her classic pink front door, her two adorable daughters, and a Pinterest-worthy EVERYTHING. The blog she shares with her sister, Emma, called “A Beautiful Mess”, is a place of joy and inspiration that’s proven longevity on the internet in a day in age where everything feels so fleeting. What’s unique about Elsie (and Emma) is how they’ve taken the experiences of being creators and made it easier for other creators. How exactly? Apps. Four of them exactly (and I use them!). But, that’s not all. In this conversation, Elsie also opens up about International adoption, the story of her two daughters, with some really real chats about the process for her. As a long-time fan of Elsie’s, this chat was a really amazing peek into her life, her heart, and her passions!

You can find Elsie on @ElsieLarson, her blog abeautifulmess.com and her apps FILMM, A  Color Story, A Design Kit and Template App.
