One day in college, while lifting next to players from the NWSL’s Houston Dash, Siobhan Higgins asked herself why that couldn’t be her. After a successful college career at the University of St. Thomas, Higgins devoted herself to training. At the same time, she was acting as her own agent, sharing game film and contacting coaches internationally, looking for a team to give her a chance. Eventually, her hard work paid off. Now, she’s playing pro in her native Scotland with Heart of Midlothian FC.

Growing up, Tanner Chassman was never the quickest or the fastest player. What differentiated him, though, was his mindset. After three ACL surgeries, Chassman found another outlet for his passion for soccer in coaching. Or, as he likes to say, he’s in the ‘growing people business.’ In his first year as the Academy’s Skills Coach, he’s developed the club’s Skill Builders program that is used in the Academy and throughout the Houston community.
