A podcast about belief, un-belief and everything in between.
Hosts Scott Trout (a Christian from America) and Joey Vervaart (an Agnostic from the Netherlands) come from two different worlds, yet they believe in the power of conversations.
Here they seek to give space for people to share their stories of faith (or lack thereof) and how those beliefs are lived out. They are hoping that through the back and forth of differing ideas, better ideas can emerge, promoting greater dialogue between those who believe in God and those who don't.

    50. The Self-Conscious Seed: Scott Trout Sermon on Acting and the Need to Surrender

    50. The Self-Conscious Seed: Scott Trout Sermon on Acting and the Need to Surrender

Scott Trout's story of acting, fame, and trying to be the life of the party all the while still trying to be a Christian and "measure up" spiritually. This led to a constant battle of trying to please those around him and getting lost in who he actually wanted to be. What Scott needed was to realize he is just a seed not an autonomous human being, and he needed to submit to the process of "being gardened."
"The seed needs to die to two things: living for its own fruit and trying to grow on its own strength"--Scott Trout

    Key Texts:

"Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit." John 12:24

"I am the vine, you are the branches.... apart from me you can do nothing" John 15:5

Scott was the speaker at the Navigator Emerging Leaders Conference in the UK in February 2024.

    48. A Message of Guilt or Love? Dutch Atheist on Reading the Bible for the First Time-- Luuk Elkhuizen Part Two

    48. A Message of Guilt or Love? Dutch Atheist on Reading the Bible for the First Time-- Luuk Elkhuizen Part Two

"You will die as bad people if you do not believe in me" Jesus in the Book of John. Is the Bible more a book about guilt or a book about love?

Scott's Dutch Neighbor, Third Generation Agnostic, Luuk Elkhuizen sits down with Scott after reading the book of John to share the things he likes about Christianity and the things he doesn’t like. Also discussed is the difference between how the Bible describes justice and how Western society describes justice. Lastly, Scott shares quotes collected from those who think there is value in being religious.

For people of faith, how would you describe the message of the Bible?

For agnostics and atheists, do you think it is bad to judge people and call them a bad person?

    47. God, The Universe, or Love: Dutch Atheist on Who Do We Say Thank You To?-- Luuk Elkhuizen Part One

    47. God, The Universe, or Love: Dutch Atheist on Who Do We Say Thank You To?-- Luuk Elkhuizen Part One

Dutch People Don't Talk about Their Spiritual Beliefs, But It's Starting to Change. Is the Universe Governed by an Unknown Force Called Love or the God of Christianity? Third generation Dutch atheist-- Luuk Elkhuizen joins Scott to talk about how religion was never on his mind growing up... until now.
Dutch society is so secularized that many young people are becoming increasingly curious about if there is a God and specifically what Christianity is all about. Luuk found it hard to find someone who actually believes in Christianity growing up. Now Luuk has started to read the Bible with Scott and is coming up with his own opinion about who Jesus was and what the Bible is all about.

For people of faith, how would you articulate what it means to live by love?
For agnostics and atheists, do you think there is a new feedback loop happening in society with so many not being religious?

    46. Marriage is 100% Dying to Yourself.... in a Good Way-- Nick Maddy Part 2

    46. Marriage is 100% Dying to Yourself.... in a Good Way-- Nick Maddy Part 2

Why is 'divorce is off the table' for so many religions? Do Christian overcomplicate dating and marriage? How to make a long-distance relationship work?

Former American missionary to Kiwis in New Zealand and Friendly American with a Great Beard--- Nick Maddy shares about how he basically broke the rules to start dating his now wife, Elise; how to keep things fresh and creative during long distance relationships; and what Nick would say to someone who is hesitant to get married.
"In any Christian relationship, we are to be like Jesus, completely dying to ourselves in all aspects and laying our life down for the sake of the other." Nick on the Christian view of marriage.

For people of faith, in what way did God direct your relationship if you are in one?

For agnostics and atheists, do you think Christians overcomplicate things with how they talk about marriage and relationships?

    45. How New Zealand Nearly Broke American Missionary-- Nick Maddy Part 1

"Is it ok that I do more in you than through you" --God to Nick while on the mission field in New Zealand.
Former American missionary to Kiwis in New Zealand and Friendly American with a Great Beard--- Nick Maddy shares about how he found God through the car crash of his friend in college, how he decided to give up everything for 'God', and how he had a horrible time in New Zealand as a missionary.... and might go back.

For people of faith, have you heard a call "to go" from God like Nick did, if so what did you do about it?

For agnostics and atheists, do you see any harm in the way Nick leads his life trying to "listen to God's voice"?
