    Make learning fun

School isn't the only place for learning activities. We learn through every day life and experiences that are not “school-like” in any way, and things do not need to “academically” educational to be worthy of our time and effort. We can all be creative in the ways we learn different things, whether we are young or old!

Get your kids excited about discovering something new by disguising the learning activities as fun time. There are many other ways to learn, though, and as parents we can understand our children and see what styles they enjoy and respond to best.

The most important thing is that we are encouraging our children to explore the world around them.

    Foster kindness and empathy

It is critical to start and teach kids at a young age, when they can most easily absorb fundamental lessons.

Usually, children like to learn from the people around him. They mimic the behavior of others and implement that in their own behavior. They are born imitators. So, we should present an imitable character before them which will help them grow as a good human being.

Children are the future habitants of this world. If they are kind and empathetic, the world will be in safe hands.

Teach kids the importance of diversity

Promote self-discovery by sharing personal journeys and helping kids understand that everyone has a story.

Teach children that their lives are enriched when they encounter and befriend people from different racial, ethnic or socioeconomic backgrounds, or who face different learning or physical challenges.

Remind kids that everyone is an individual and when kids are self-aware and self-accepting, they are less likely to be judgmental or prejudiced.

113: Fixing your Mental Health - Ross Jackson-Hicks - Co Founder Man Down Cornwall

    Ross Jackson-Hicks

Ross Jackson-Hicks has battled anxiety since being diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as a child.

Ross, who runs Rudi's hair salon, came up with an idea where men would be able to talk in a safe space. There is a toxic masculinity stigma where men are supposed to be viewed as macho men - and as a result Man Down was formed.

Man down is a support group for men based in cornwall with mental health concerns. A very relaxed, very informal and non judgmental space where men can come along and not feel vulnerable taking about how they have been feeling recently.

    Mental Health Awareness Week

Today we talk about mental illness as one of the main causes for preventable deaths in England and there is no better time to speak about all things mental health, than now.

How often do we take the time to reflect on whether we are giving ourselves what we need to flourish and live well? It can be so easy for us to take our mental health for granted and seem like a big of a task to do so, but in reality it’s not.

Mental health awareness is great, but action is essential. Raising awareness of mental health problems should be the start of the process of tackling them, not the end. Whether we are living with a mental illness or not, being mentally healthy and living well is important to every single one of us.

    Top Tips

    Love yourself

Loving oneself is the starting point of the growth of the person who feels the courage to take responsibility for their own existence. Viktor Frankl

Love yourself enough to know what helps you grow and to love yourself means to accept yourself as you are at the same time you come to terms with those aspects of yourself that you cannot change.

Prevent self-sabotage by setting loving boundaries. As your self-love expands, so will your ability to identify what is and isn’t good for you. You’ll gain the clarity you need to understand what you will and will not accept in your life.

Self-love is about connecting to your innermost needs, celebrating the freedom of being you, and honoring who you truly are while dropping your destructive patterns.

    Be mentally tough

Increased mental toughness is the key to performing at your peak. Being mentally tough helps you manage your thoughts, regulate your emotions, and behave productively.

Mental toughness gives you power to work hard and always move forward because you know how to deal with difficult situations and overcome them.

We all possess mental strength, just to different degrees. If we train ourselves to be more mentally tough we will be able to reach our goals and become successful.

    Exercise empathy

People who are empathic are active listeners. If you want to see into the hearts of others, your first task is to hear their stories. Empathy is important because it helps us understand how others are feeling so we can respond appropriately to the situation.

See things from their perspective, and imagine yourself

    TOP TIPS

    Women are strong

"There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise"

Voices and participation of women in society are more important than ever. The fact that women are so undervalued in most society is insane.

Thanks to some very strong women that decided they wanted to be paid the same as men, or treated them as equals (mind, body and soul), those women took a stand and because of such courage - their voices were heard.

Women simply wants to be respected for who and what they are, and to be able to feel comfortable in this world. And by comfort, I mean women want to feel that no one will take advantage of them.

Adapt to the situation you're in

Things change constantly: loved ones die. jobs end, as do relationships. There is no avoiding change as it will find you, challenge you and force you to reconsider how to live your life.

Choose to commit to creative solutions when you face a needed adjustment. Learning to adapt to new situations and people is paramount to anyone's survival, especially in the world of business.

Adaptation is essential so help embrace it by pushing past your comfort zone.

    Give Back

Being part of something larger might be one of the best things we can do, both for others and ourselves. It’s easier to be charitable about something you are passionate about.

Finding your purpose is a smart thing to do—or, if you can’t figure that out yet, do a random good deed for a person or a cause, and see how it makes you feel. If giving back makes you feel better, you will be apt to spread the word and seek the help of others who can make an impact as well.

Giving back is truly a way for people to have a global impact when it comes to making the world a better place.

111: Hacking Sleeping - Richard Hall - CTO, Kokoon

111: Hacking Sleeping - Richard Hall - CTO, Kokoon

    Richard Hall and Kokoon

Kokoon are the world’s first sleep sensing EEG (electroencephalogram) headphones - comfortable enough to sleep in, without compromising acoustic quality.

Richard Hall and Tim Atnos launched Kokoon Technology in 2015 with the aim of combating the common challenge of getting a good night’s sleep by using a soporific mix of audio and brain-sensing technology.

The idea for Kokoon headphones stemmed from a personal problem: founder Tim Antos had a stressful job which led to him having trouble sleeping. He tried conventional methods, and even sleeping tablets, but nothing worked, until he went to a cognitive behaviour programme at a sleep clinic where he discovered the power of using audio to sleep.

Whilst this provided a solution it also raised another problem; it was uncomfortable to sleep wearing large headphones.Tim decided to combine the reserch from the sleep clinic with the technology of an accessible consumer device: Kokoon.

    TOP TIPS

    Music is Therapy

Listening to music can be a quick route to getting yourself into a better mood, but it's becoming increasingly clear that there's much more to the benefits of music than just a quick boost for your outlook.

Music can be used in daily life for relaxation, to gain energy when feeling drained and when dealing with emotional stress as well.

Most of us know from experience that music can dissolve the stress of a long drive, keep us motivated to exercise, and take us right back to positive experiences in our past, which can be a happiness booster and a stress reliever.

Next time you’re getting ready for sleep, consider how music might be a great addition to your evening routine

    Make Time for Family

We all know that quality time with our family is paramount in building stronger relationships. Our time is one of the greatest things we can give to our family.

In this fast paced modern day, it is easy to forget that simply just spending time with our love ones is really important. Family time means you can just have fun and enjoy each others company!

You can never get back time, no matter what. Make the most of the time you can give to your family. Understand that nothing can be more important than your family because they are the people who will be with you always, through thick or thin.

    Treat Yourself Well

Embracing the concept of self care can be difficult for those who’ve always placed emphasis on the welfare of others. However, giving all your energy to those around you without filling your own back up leaves you depleted and empty. For sure that’s no way to live.

Treating yourself means you then have more energy to love those around you. You'll feel happier when you’ve invested some energy in YOU.

In addition to pampering yourself, more substantial forms of self-care invloves having healthy lifestyle choices are important, too. Consuming a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and being sure you get enough sleep are all important.

    TOP TIPS

    Have a Support System

Social support also helps people to cope with stress. Being surrounded by people who are caring and supportive helps people to see themselves as better capable of dealing with the stresses that life brings.

Social relationships can also help people to stay motivated when trying to achieve their goals. Talking to people who are going through the same experience can often be a source of support, empathy, and motivation.

Strive to have the F words

    Fabulous

If anyone deserves to look and feel fabulous, it’s you. Feel amazing by feeling fabulous. Feeling fabulous is all about who you are inside and out. Being kind and nice to everyone around you and taking care of yourself. Remaining fabulous is not about looking fabulous, its about feeling fabulous and being your best self,

    Freedom

Freedom is important because it really allows you to grow and mature in life. Freedom "gives" happiness because the state of being free is aligned with your true nature. The more you are aligned with your true nature, the more you are well.

    Financial Indepenence

Being financial independence is a major step towards your control in life. Financial independence is about freedom from money-related worries and ample preparation for the future. It is also about being able to leave a legacy to others through one’s generosity, passion, and life values.

    Family

With the advancement of technology, changing cultural norms, new priorities, and new forms of communication fueled by the Internet, it's natural to wonder what the importance of the family is. Family is just as relevant as it ever was. No matter how much life changes in the future, having a solid family structure in modern society is critical to ensure the health and well-being of all members

    TOP TIPS

    Stop Thinking and Start Doing

Commitment to action is not something you’ll achieve overnight. You will have to push yourself and fight tendencies to fall back into old patterns. Instead of accepting your inaction, always try to find the cause for it, and learn ways to overcome it.

You need to keep moving forward in order to achieve your dreams and stay true to your visions. After all, by taking no action all we do is make sure that we don’t succeed.

    Be Open-Minded

Open-mindedness is a characteristic that involves being receptive to a wide variety of ideas, arguments, and information. It is a necessary ability in order to think critically and rationally. Even if being open-minded does not come naturally to you, there are things that you can do to cultivate a receptive attitude that leaves you open to new perspectives, knowledge, people, and experiences.

When you have a positive attitude about new experiences, you can open yourself up to new discoveries every day. It’s a great way to keep your life fun and exciting!

    Don't Let Anyone Stop You

No matter what, someone is always going to come around and try to dim that light or shut it off. Whatever you do, you hold on to that light and you fight. You fight to not let that person tear you down, you fight for the right to define yourself, to not let anyone else tell you who you are.

You got to keep your head up. Don’t ever let someone fade the light that makes you beautiful. Because in the end, you’re the one who controls how brightly you shine.

Mood Picker Upper

I don't usually listen to podcasts because I'm a very visual person. But the Growth Mindset Podcast is such a very good mood picker upper especially whenever I feel like I'm not myself. Or whenever I feel unmotivated with work. It helps that something/someone reminds you what to be grateful for each day.
