Australis Extremis Episode One
Dr Ben Hillier joins Berto in exploring the sound of Aussie heavy music in this new monthly show on Voice of Chaos, Australis Extremis.
Building on the PHD work Ben completed on extreme music in Australia, episode one takes us right back to the early 70s where the foundations for what would become the Aussie Heavy Music sound were being laid.
Featuring tracks across three key segments:
Pre-metal context
01 Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs - Goodbye Baby (1970)
02 Ash - Avignon (1970)
03 Buffalo - Dead Forever (1972)
Early Australian Metal
04 Ash - Midnight Witch
05 Buffalo - Sunrise
Comparing metal and hard rock
06 - AC/DC - It's a Long Way to the top
07 Buffalo - Shylock
Post-Buffalo
08 - Rose Tattoo - Rock'n'Roll Outlaw (1978)
09 - Cold Chisel - Khe Sahn (1978)
10 The Angels - Am I ever Gonna See your face again (1977)
Australis Extremis was recorded live on May 4th 2024 from the Edge Radio studios in Hobart during Voice of Chaos.
Excuse the dodgy mic at the start of the episode and audio quality of the music. These are being sorted for future episodes.

MSI
There is nothing polished or pretty with this episode as Berto drags the boys from M.S.I out from one of their practices and into the local park, parkgoers unsure of what lies before them, for a chat before their 5 year reunion show. This is raw and uncut but a hell of a lot of fun.
Hear why this lot have decided to resurrect themselves from the grave, how M.S.I went on to become Hobart's Slam Kings, GAPE and what's on the horizon.
Some random fav tracks chosen to fill out the episode with Iguana Stop, Meat Pig and Gorge Arse playing either side of the interview to tickle your earholes.
