    153. Strengths Untold: Nina Springle ~ How A Girl From Frankston Found Her Way To Zanzibar (Ep.16)

    💪🕵️‍♀️

Raised by her migrant Polish-Czech grandparents in SE Melbourne, Nina Springle's early life was infused with stories of post-war survival, hardship and resilience. This fuelled Nina's steely determination to chart her own course in study, careers and adventure.  However, from suburban Frankston, family chaos and visa rejections, to a one-way ferry to Zanzibar, Nina's choices and fate presented her with a future unlike any she'd imagined.  These events have coloured her life with a passion to pursue social and environmental justice, which we discuss in this episode of 'Strengths Untold'.

    150. Strengths Untold: Sonia Lindsay ~ The Third Space (Ep.13)

    150. Strengths Untold: Sonia Lindsay ~ The Third Space (Ep.13)

    💪🕵️‍♀️

Born in London, Sonia Lindsay hails from South India but has lived in the UK and Australia. She chronicles her school memories, from the hippie London school where they sang Beatles songs at assembly, to the parochial suburban school in Perth, where Sonia endured devastating bullying. Betwixt these cultures & experiences, Sonia found a ‘third space’ from which she’s carved a cathartic role connecting with kids on the margins. Hers is a beautiful story of resilience, healing & hope.

    149. Unapologetically Brown: The Hon Senator Mehreen Faruqi ~ What Does It Take To Smash The Triple Glass Ceiling? (Ep.28)

    👩🏽👩🏾

Shamila and Niveditha speak with the Hon Senator Mehreen Faruqi, Australian Parliamentarian and an OG Unapologetically Brown, Muslim, Migrant Woman, to hear about her incredible life story, from her upbringing in Pakistan to her remakings in Australia.

In this conversation, we explore Mehreen’s life and career as told in her book “Too Migrant, Too Muslim, Too Loud”, an intelligent primer on both intersectional feminism and politics, and timely contribution to the feminist landscape in Australia told from the perspective of a brilliant woman who has paved the way for migrants, women of colour, and Muslims in Australian politics.

We discuss the visceral intersection of racism and sexism that multiplies the challenges women of colour in politics face many times over and how this has played out in Mehreen’s career.

Mehreen provides her expert insights into a range of topics, from triggering racial hatred in a system set up to protect its privilege and power to why the Australian parliament lags behind countries such as Canada, the US, and the UK when it comes to diverse representation.

Tune in for an inspiring and insightful conversation with a true trailblazer who personifies what it means to be Unapologetically Brown, and to learn from someone who has determinedly banged down the doors to political participation and representation, and how the diversity of lived experience and education is needed disrupt the status quo and improve outcomes for all Australians.

I really enjoyed listening to this podcast, specifically the episode about Indian Matchmaking show. The two women share their views and insights from a different culture than mine that is interesting and reflective. But they bring the humor too! Highly recommend.
