    "The Handmaiden"

    "The Handmaiden"

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture

Our 2016 retrospective continues as we attempt to cover a few missing podcast reviews which we did not complete the year the site launched. This will culminate in NBP Film Community Awards and awards voted on by the staff towards the end of October. Next up is our review of "The Handmaiden" written and directed by Park Chan-wook ("Oldboy"). One of the most acclaimed films of 2016 and unjustly overlooked to be South Korea's Oscar submission for the Best International Feature Film category that year, the film has endured to become a modern classic in the eyes of many cinephiles. Do we agree? Joining me to discuss I have Nicole Ackman, Josh Parham, Dan Bayer & Patreon guest Jay Ledbetter. Take a listen below and let us know what you think. Also check out our previous 2016 reviews of "20th Century Women," "Paterson," "Captain Fantastic" & "Hail, Caesar!" Thanks!

The Next Best Theatre Podcast: Episode 35 - Our Reactions To The 74th Annual Tony Award Nominations

In what has been undoubtedly the oddest Tony season of our lifetimes, the 74th annual Tony Award nominations were announced this past Friday for the 2019-2020 Broadway season. Due to the pandemic, the selection was somewhat limited which led to more than a few surprising choices and even exclusions. The ceremony will be held virtually later this year (date currently unspecified) and we will be back for our winner predictions then with another free episode. Until then, take a listen down below to hear from myself, Nicole Ackman, Dan Bayer, Casey Lee Clark, Cody Dericks & Lauren LaMagna on this free full-length episode.

Film Lovers Rejoice!

I love this podcast for a plethora of reasons. Always incredibly informative, clearly passionate about the topic, and the guests are always great! Matt and the NBP team are all awesome, and this is an easy listen for newcomers to film and cinephiles!

Awful

Do you guys watch the films before reviewing them? There is no originality in these reviews and some details are plainly wrong. It was so frustrating to sit through an episode.

JID1946 ,

Why condemn a movie?

Isn’t the title “The Next Best Movie”? All 3 reviewers (didn’t count Sara Clements since she only whined out 3 sentences).
In review of DR Pollocks “The Devil all the Time”- didn’t they do any research?
Pollock writes of the misery of dirt towns in East Ohio. Nothing good ever happens. Look at Opioid abuse in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia and figure it out.
Like Wes Anderson films are an acquired taste - so too is Pollock novels.
