Home and rental prices continue to soar in Northern Nevada and Northeastern California, leaving more working families and individuals on the brink. Seniors, college students, single parents, immigrants, and the working poor are particularly vulnerable. Some must choose to pay rent over buying food or securing healthcare. The lack of affordable housing in urban and rural areas alike is changing the identity of this region. In response, the KUNR newsroom is examining housing through many lenses, including the economic, political, and public health impacts. Priced Out explores these issues.

So, so well done.

I stumbled on this podcast in my research for a social justice project for class about the myths of affordable housing and found it incredibly helpful. Thank you for keeping this vital reporting so high quality and accessible!

Love it!

I live in Fernley and get to listen to Bree Zender every morning since she started not too long ago. I bought my house in 2017 here in Fernley after renting less than a year here and feel great about my purchase. Owning the home, I love seeing the values going up. It’s really interesting to get in depth stories on other perspectives. I especially like the deeper information when the reporters who made the stories talk about what didn’t quite make the original story. Lastly, I love getting to hear Bree’s personality come out a bit more than she can while hosting Morning Edition. I will now continue to think of her as self-proclaimed Bree “ZENDA!” from episode one. Binge worthy. Give it a listen! Can’t wait to see what KUNR puts out next.
