Germany’s most beloved extortionist, Dagobert, featuring Annabelle from Shameless

Germany’s most beloved extortionist, Dagobert, featuring Annabelle from Shameless

In 1988, Arno Funke was a broke, 38-year-old German man with a plan turn his life around. He decided to bankroll his dream of starting a food truck business by becoming…an extortionist. His method was simple: he detonated pipe-bombs in fancy department stores and warned the police that if they didn’t pay his ransom demands, he’d detonate more.

Over the course of six years, Arno, or Dagobert (the German name for Scrooge McDuck), as he was more affectionately known, led the cops on a wild goose chase as his plans to claim his money and outsmart the police became increasingly outlandish and cartoonish. All the while, he was becoming more and more famous and beloved by the people of Germany.

The Spiderman Musical (aka Broadway's Biggest Fail) with Nat's What I Reckon

The Spiderman Musical (aka Broadway's Biggest Fail) with Nat's What I Reckon

In 2002 the first Spiderman film was breaking records at the box office. Studio executives asked themselves how they could squeeze even more money from it and the answer was obvious: a stage musical. But this was no ordinary stage musical. It featured the music of U2, shared the same director as the incredibly successful Lion King stage production and would see Spiderman and the Green Goblin flying through theatres using technology that not only hadn’t been invented yet, but hadn’t even been tested in a tech rehearsal. What could possibly go wrong?

Tens of millions of dollars and several life threatening injuries later, ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark’ became the most expensive, and biggest fail, in Broadway history.

The Australian Titanic that went missing for almost 50 years featuring Carlo Ritchie

The Australian Titanic that went missing for almost 50 years featuring Carlo Ritchie

On March 23rd, 1911, the luxury passenger ship, the SS Yongala started its 99th voyage from Mackay to Cairns. But much like Betty White and Prince Phillip before her, the SS Yongala didn’t live to see its 100th voyage. Not long after setting sail from Mackay, a tropical storm warning forced all ships to return to port. All ships heeded the message...except the SS Yongala, which never arrived in Cairns and was assumed to have sunk. It would take 47 years before a recreational diver named Bill would find the shipwreck, almost perfectly preserved off the coast of Ayr, Queensland. The ship didn’t make headlines again until 2003 when an American couple took a honeymoon diving trip to the Yongala and only one of them survived.

The World’s Biggest Art Heist with Kate Wasley

The World’s Biggest Art Heist with Kate Wasley

On a Sunday morning in March 1990, two security guards arrived at the prestigious Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston ready to start work, only to find the museum had been robbed overnight. Thirteen artworks were missing and so were the two security guards who’d worked the night shift.

The value of the missing art was around $500 million USD in today’s money, making this heist the largest art theft, and largest property, theft in history.

The suspects included a stoner security guard, disgruntled ex-employees, the Boston Mafia, the IRA and even the museum’s director... but to this day the case has never been solved and the artworks have never been recovered.

K-Madison ,

Favorite show ever

It’s hilarious and personal and you learn random amazing stuff. What more could you want? I will cry when I’m done bingeing all the old episodes.

Magic Worker ,

Hard to listen to

The snort giggling and mind numbing banter takes up a good portion of the show. Can’t get thru a story without screaming laughter. The hosts spend too much time trying to entertain each other with lame jokes triggering loud laughter. Don’t listen with headphones as it’s excruciating.

theweaselj ,

Fun and Informative

I love this show! The topics are interesting, and I’ve learned so much about pop culture from breaking news I can almost answer pop trivia, haha! As others have said, the two hosts have a great dynamic and are just a pleasure to listen to. I have learned things. Important things: I. I am a geriatric millennial (I spelled this so wrong three times my autocorrect didn’t even know what I meant haha). BUT. I am not cheugy. If anyone wants to learn about these fascinating revelations and more, listen!! The stories -even ones I’m “meh” going into- always turn out to be so interesting. And I finally learned about what Cats is really all about. Thanks Jacob and Rosie. You guys are amazing!
