NFL Legal Nightmare: Gruden, Washington, and St. Louis with Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports

NFL Legal Nightmare: Gruden, Washington, and St. Louis with Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports

Our guest this week is Charles Robinson — Senior NFL Writer at Yahoo Sports. Charles (@CharlesRobinson) was one of the first national writers to weigh in on the St. Louis Rams litigation and then had a huge story this week of reports that Jon Gruden is weighing a lawsuit against the Raiders and the NFL following the Washington Football Team email leak. We discuss the critical concept of duress as to how/why Gruden possibly resigned without a walkaway agreement in place, where the St. Louis case goes from here, and -- of course -- we provide the heavy-hitting legal analysis.

Ben Simmons & The Sports Vaxx Standoffs (Kyrie Irving, Evander Kane, & Wash St Coach Nick Rolovich)

Ben Simmons & The Sports Vaxx Standoffs (Kyrie Irving, Evander Kane, & Wash St Coach Nick Rolovich)

We cover the two NBA superstars facing sports law drama. First, Ben Simmons (4:15) who refused to report to the Philadelphia 76ers and then was suspended for - what else?? - conduct detrimental and then Kyrie Irving (14:15) who is not “anti-vaxx” but made the choice to not get the vaccine for whatever reason and the Brooklyn Nets have responded with a choice of their own -- "you're banned".
Sticking with the vaccine topic, we move over to college football where Washington State Head Coach Nick Rolovich (22:30) was fired from the university for failing to get the vaccine by October 18th in violation of a state law mandate. Rolovich has since announced his intention to sue the school for religious discrimination. Lastly, we close the book on Evander Kane (30:32) who received a suspension for using a fake vaccination card though he was spared from punishment stemming from the assault and gambling allegations.
    LEGAL LIFE ADVICE (35:44)
WHAT TO WATCH FOR (40:30): Dopesick, Squid Game, Bad Sport — Netflix’s New Sports Doc Series

Jon Gruden’s Leaked Emails & Washington Football Team Investigation

Jon Gruden’s Leaked Emails & Washington Football Team Investigation

We discuss all things Jon Gruden (1:15) following his leaked emails and swift resignation of head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. Interestingly, these emails were uncovered during an unrelated investigation by a law firm into allegations of sexual harassment and toxic workplace surrounding the Washington Football Team. WFT Owner Dan Snyder, not Jon Gruden, was the subject of that investigation yet we didn’t see a single email about Snyder and a written report was never generated so we don’t know what quite what happened.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the NFL reviewed 650,000 emails during its investigation into the Washington Football Team's workplace culture. Either Jon Gruden had the only offensive emails within the 650,000 or - far more likely - his were the only ones ownership ALLOWED to come out.
Ask yourself why now? Was it to get out from under Jon Gruden’s albatross 10yr / $100M record contract to coach the Raiders until 2028… or did they need a fall guy to try and divert everyone’s attention from the WFT chaos. If owners wanted this kept secret, it would have been.
We analyze the emails, talk about the lawyers involvement, and revisit the allegations against the Washington Football Team which led to these emails in the first place to try and get a better understanding of why they are coming out now.
We then preview the St. Louis Rams Town Hall (29:37) and the latest on the case.

Awesome Pod

This has been a must listen for old St Louis Rams fans. Goes in depth on the Rams relocation lawsuit.

??

Generally really like the pod and find it informative, but what on Earth was that take on vaccination in the most recent episode? Absolutely bizarre to act like getting vaccinated and not getting vaccinated are both equally valid choices, and it’s not like sports (and the world?) hasn’t been heavily impacted enough by covid for the hosts to know better.

Great Conversation

Great Pod. The case is going to court. I don’t think that St Louis wants a team. And wants to keep Stan and the League feet to the fire. However the movement of the Chargers I think would be easier
