Here's the penultimate episode from our epic LA Road Trip. This episode is the first of two recorded on the rooftop patio of the Greiff Center for Entrepreneurship at USC’s Marshall School of Business. It’s the closing reception of the 19th Annual Entrepreneurship Conference at USC.

Brad and Jeff are joined by Colleen Robb, Associate Professor of Enterpreneurship at Florida Gulf Coast University, and Julienne Shields, the President and CEO of USASBE.

They enjoy a lively conversation ranging from the differences between entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship to how student learning styles have changed since the pandemic — with many stops in between.

EPISODE 47: Andrea Prado (INCAE) on Venture Creation and Growth in Low-Income Markets (LA Road Trip!)

On this installment of Creative Distillation, we continue our LA Road Trip with the last of three interviews recorded during a now-legendary outdoor cocktail reception at the Social Entrepreneurship conference hosted by the USC's Marshall School of Business.

Brad and Jeff speak with Andrea Prado, Associate Professor of Management and Organizations at INCAE Business School in San Jose, Costa Rica. They talk about her latest paper, “Serving rural low-income markets through a social entrepreneurship approach: Venture creation and growth”, published in 2022 in the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and looking at how to bring products and services to low income rural communities in developing countries. If you think the answer is to give everything away, you’ll be surprised by her findings.

At some point, Indiana University’s Sophie Bock, Social Entrepreneurship Conference co-coordinator and friend of the podcast, and Julienne Shields, President and CEO of USASBE, the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, crash the party, bringing their own interesting takes to the conversation and making a good time truly great.

    Enjoy and cheers!

EPISODE 46: Natalie Eng (Alberta) on Social Enterprise Ecosystems (LA Road Trip!)

On this installment of Creative Distillation, we continue our LA Road Trip with the second of three interviews recorded during an outdoor cocktail reception at the Social Entrepreneurship conference hosted by the USC's Marshall School of Business.

Brad and Jeff speak with Natalie Eng, a 3rd year Graduate Research Assistant and PhD student at the University of Alberta School of Business in Edmonton. While sipping an IPA from Hop Saint Brewing, Natalie talks about what she’s discovering through her study of social enterprise ecosystems. Specifically, she’s interested in how people collaborate to produce an ecosystem in the first place, and how the strength of that ecosystem’s infrastructure can predict the viability of the ventures within it.

There's also some additional commentary on the rat attack fended off by our producer, Joel, during the previous episode.

    Enjoy and cheers.
