McKamey Manor, House of Legal Torture

McKamey Manor, House of Legal Torture

McKamey Manor is a "haunted house" where guests are tortured, beat up, and nearly drowned, and it has a waitlist of over 20,000 people. In the late 90s and early 2000s, an amateur haunted house enthusiast, Russ McKamey, started hosting "haunts" in his backyard. Over the years he began to attract attention as these haunted house experiences became more and more extreme. By the late 2010s, he started to become nationally known for the fact that McKamey Manor had somehow devolved into an 8 hour torture session where guests consented to being beaten up, drowned, covered in bugs and snakes, and pushed to their psychological breaking point. But, despite the fact that everyone involved is a consenting adult, many thing McKamey Manor should be shut down. On this episode of Deep Cuts, we explore the disturbing world of McKamey Manor.

Q Series

Really terrific stuff. Great guests who are experts on the subject and a really exhaustive look at the phenomenon. Highly recommended for folks who listen to shows such as QAA.

FearOverBoar ,

“…two animals cracking…convoluted, yet immature jokes.”

You can tell these guys love the cultural cryptozoology of the content - but sometimes it feels like they love the way they sound talking about the content more.

Now, you might be thinking, “Well of course - that’s what podcasts are, dummy."

And in general: I’d agree with you. But you have to balance that with the actual info you want to get across or else, in this case, you end up with a poor man’s Upright Citizens Brigade reading Wikepedia pages interspersed with un-addressed issues better suited for a therapist.

It’s not the worst podcast out there - and really has the potential to be great with a little more structure and restraint - but for two guys who come from storytelling backgrounds (comics and film) they tend to lose control of the conversation - and the narrative - pretty regularly. You’re left wishing even ten percent more of the conversation was just spent talking about the advertised title instead of 20 minutes devoted to rambling childhood memories or wildly tangential pop-culture references.

Please tell just tell the story

You two stray way too much from the story… the banter can be fun but it becomes so obnoxious that the story is lost. Also in the Lisa frank episode comments about appearances is never okay. I get you were trying describe who she is but let’s take a moment to reflect on how those negative comments on her looks are irrelevant to the storyline.
