江海章第六十六
江海所以能為百谷王者，以其善下之，故能為百谷王。是以聖人欲上民，必以言下之；欲先民，必以身後之。是以聖人處上而民不重；處前而民不害。是以天下樂推而不厭。以其不爭，故天下莫能與之爭。
第 六 十 六 章
江 海 之 所 以 能 为 百 谷 王 者 ，以 其 善 下 之 ， 故 能 为 百 谷 王 。
是 以 圣 人 欲 上 民 ， 必 以 言 下 之 ﹔欲 先 民 ， 必 以 身 后 之 。
是 以 圣 人 处 上 而 民 不 重 ， 处 前 而 民 不 害 。是 以 天 下 乐 推 而 不 厌 。以 其 不 争 ， 故 天 下 莫 能 与 之 争 。
Dì liùshíliù zhāng
jiānghǎi zhī suǒyǐ néng wèi bǎi gǔ wángzhě, yǐ qí shàn xià zhī, gù néng wèi bǎi gǔ wáng. Shì yǐ shèngrén yù shàng mín, bì yǐ yán xià zhī﹔yù xiān mín, bì yǐ shēnhòu zhī. Shì yǐ shèngrén chù shàng ér mín bù zhòng, chù qián ér mín bù hài. Shì yǐ tiānxià lè tuī ér bùyàn. Yǐ qí bùzhēng, gù tiānxià mò néng yǔ zhī zhēng.

66. Lead by Following
The river carves out the valley by flowing beneath it.
Thereby the river is the master of the valley.
In order to master people
One must speak as their servant;
In order to lead people
One must follow them.
So when the sage rises above the people,
They do not feel oppressed;
And when the sage stands before the people,
They do not feel hindered.
So the popularity of the sage does not fail,
He does not contend, and no one contends against him.

大江大海能匯聚容納百川流水，是因為它所處低下，便為百川之王。
若有人想在萬民之上，先得自謙為下；要為萬民之先，先得自卑為後。聖人正是這樣，他在上，人民沒有重擔；他在前，人民不會受害。所以普天下都熱心擁戴 而不厭倦。他不爭不競，謙卑虛己，所以天下沒有人能和他相爭。
