    The Green Knight (2021) Revisited

    The Green Knight (2021) Revisited

Bonus!! It’s been 2 whole years, and we’re doing something we’ve never done before….back in 2021 we shared a rare in-person screening of David Lowery’s THE GREEN KNIGHT right in the midst of the pandemic. It was a whirlwind (the projector was out of focus for most of it). Now that we’ve given the movie a proper (and very thorough) viewing, we couldn’t resist reevaluating it for this series. Off with yer head!

    Willow (1988) with Desmond Thorne

Somehow...George Lucas has returned! And also, our old friend, Desmond Thorne. Join us this week for a journey into the land of Ron Howard's WILLOW, where Queen Bavmorda of Nockmaar reigns, Warwick Davis delights, and babe-era Val Kilmer smolders. We're just about at the end of our series. But you can't close the book on '80s Dark Fantasy without unpacking Lucas's very own entry into the genre.

    The Princess Bride (1987)

    The Princess Bride (1987)

Inconceivable! As we near the end of the 80s, one (kind of) dark fantasy movie stands proudly in our way...PRINCESS BRIDE! It may not be the most brooding or atmospheric of the pack, but there's simply no way we couldn't dissect this all-time mega hit.

Labyrinth (1986) with Alaina Urquhart (Morbid)

You remind me of the babe. What babe? The babe with the power. What power? The power of voodoo. Who do? You do! Do what? Remind me of the babe.

Highlander (1986) with Philip Gawthorne (Die Hard on a Blank)

There can only be one. And he's with us this week for HIGHLANDER! It's screenwriter, playwright, and co-host of the very good Die Hard on a Blank podcast, Philip Gawthorne. From bonkers accents, to decapitations, to the exact number of smashed planes of glass, we go long on what may very well be the most insane movie of the 1980s. The quickening is upon us.

Insightful and Authentic

Dom and Adam, thank you for this podcast. I don’t review things often but I just want you to know how much I appreciate your heartfelt and honest dialogue. I’ve been binging episodes since last week and adore your thoughtful and honest conversations about what does and doesn’t work for you in a film. I’ve never thought about films this way but the structure of the production history and insight into some of the behind the scenes feels so respectful to the art form without bringing in too much outside drama. Your respect for films you didn’t enjoy also helps me to respect and understand that even films I don’t enjoy had massive amounts of work and effort put into them that deserves recognition. You two have such a pleasant back and forth that I could listen to for hours.

Best Movie Podcast out there

Love the premise, where one scene distills the thematic and aesthetic concerns of the whole. Great host repartee and chemistry. The organization around a series (Jurassic Summer, Mission Impossible, now Romero Zombie films) works so well as there is a cumulative impact from episode to episode as larger themes exfoliate. The production histories are more thorough than you will get anywhere else, as are the granular analyses of the signature scenes that define their movies, and this podcast. It is what I look forward to the most each Monday!
