Cottages Uncut by Exmoor Character Cottages - S03 E19: The big FAQ-Cast! What to expect when you stay with us.

It's the busiest time of the year here at the cottages. August has arrived and each of our historic cottages are full of happy guests. The Housekeeping team are literally flat-out ironing, spraying every surface until it gleams and carefully balancing the chemicals in the hot tubs every day.

Even with the best preparation, we know there's always a question or two about your stay that you'll want to ask - but it keeps slipping your mind. This Podcast aims to answer those little queries whilst you're on your way to us, or in preparation for departure.

We hope you find it useful, but if you'd like more information you can find much more on the website or just email Lucy at anytime on: info@exmoorcharactercottages.co.uk

Cottages Uncut by Exmoor Character Cottages - S03 E18: Our Window on the World

Cottages Uncut by Exmoor Character Cottages - S03 E18: Our Window on the World

Earlier in July, we recorded a podcast all about a little window with a big history.

The famous box window at The Old Sweet Shop cottage on Vicarage Road in Minehead is home to a regularly rotating window display which celebrates its historic location and the surrounding community.

This short podcast talks of our favourite displays over the years and touches on the history of the window and the shop which lay behind.

We hope you enjoy this sweet little indulgence, but if you'd like to know more about the history of The Old Sweet Shop, take a listen to this podcast recorded in 2021.

Of course, if you'd like to book a stay at this historic cottage, simply follow this link to our direct booking site, where you'll find all the details and the latest pricing and availability.

Cottages Uncut by Exmoor Character Cottages - S03 E17: Leo Davey, Minehead Artist

In this Podcast recorded on a bright morning in May,  Lucy and David took a trip to Leo's enchanting gallery in Minehead.

Inspired by his Exmoor and West Country surroundings, Leo's paintings change in style and feel as often as his subject. From the meticulous to the abstract, Leo refuses to settle on any particular genre of painting and continues to explore and develop ways of seeing and defining his landscapes through his works.
Leo has shown at the Royal West Academy, Royal Watercolour Society, and Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour. He has won The Evolver prize twice as well as numerous other prizes and been shortlisted in The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition many times and won the competition's Smith and Williamson Cityscape prize in 2015 and won first prize with his painting 'Condensation' in 2019.
Stunning depictions of Exmoor, West Country Landscapes, The West Somerset Railway and Birds are all available to buy as prints in various sizes on this site as well as original watercolour paintings, oil paintings, greeting cards and postcards.
These are also for sale in his Minehead gallery located at 24c Quirke Street / Friday Street, TA24 5UE. Find out more about Leo's work on his website.

Cottages Uncut by Exmoor Character Cottages - S03 E16: Bounding into Bampton

Cottages Uncut by Exmoor Character Cottages - S03 E16: Bounding into Bampton

On a rainy, damp day in May, Lucy and David jumped into the Outside Broadcast Truck (David's Smart Car!) and hit the south road to beautiful Bampton.

What we found was both fascinating and surprising, with the team from the Bampton Heritage and Visitor Centre being the perfect hosts (and fabulous podcasters!)

There's so much to see and do in Bampton, it's a must-visit when staying with us. The friendly local community are rightly passionate about their town and whether you're making the day of it, or simply popping in for a brunch, lunch or dinner, everyone should take time to bound in Bampton!

We hope you enjoy the podcast and check back soon for a very special podcast from Bampton Church!

Cottages Uncut by Exmoor Character Cottages - S03 E15: Watchet's Magnificent East Quay

Cottages Uncut by Exmoor Character Cottages - S03 E15: Watchet's Magnificent East Quay

Earlier this Summer, we travelled to the popular and thriving harbour town of Watchet to visit Georgie and the team of the Onion Collective at East Quay.

Onion Collective is the social enterprise that conceived of, built, and now runs East Quay, working to tackle social, cultural and environmental justice in Watchet through wide reaching and ambitious regeneration projects.

This amazing, creative space is so much more than an art gallery - it has a real connection to the town and its community and simply must be on your itinerary when visiting Exmoor and West Somerset.

Visit East Quay, explore the town and enjoy something to eat at East Quay itself, or at one of Watchet's Delis, Pubs or Cafés. It's a great way to spend a day: whatever the weather.
