The Great Salt Lake Needs Our Help

The Great Salt Lake Needs Our Help

The Great Salt Lake is at historically low levels, and that’s a problem for our city’s air quality, economy and ecology. City Cast Salt Lake host Ali Vallarta catches up with Chandler Rosenburg, co-founder of Save our Great Salt Lake, a coalition organizing for statewide action to preserve our city’s namesake.
Rosenburg is helping organize a virtual rally Saturday, January 15 aimed to encourage the legislature to take action when it meets next week.

    Punk's Not Dead, It's Hidden

The 1998 film SLC Punk showed a violent, repressed side to Salt Lake City’s 1980s punk scene. Photographer and author Landon Hale says today’s punk scene is all about community, inclusivity, and more than music. Hale captures Salt Lake’s punk culture in his new book Punk’s Not Dead, It’s Hidden.

Tons of snow last week brought Salt Lake’s snowpack up to 108%, and our resorts were slammed with holiday traffic. Ali Vallarta catches up with Lee Moriarty and Patrick Murphy – Business Managers from the Park City Professional Ski Patrol Association. Their union is in its 47th bargaining session with Vail Resorts, and they told Ali they don’t want to strike, they just want a living wage.

Utah, The Rose Bowl, and the Number 22

The University of Utah football team has dealt with tragedy this past year. Star running back Ty Jordan died of a gunshot wound last Christmas and his high school friend and Utah teammate, Aaron Lowe, was killed at a house party in Salt Lake this year.
On New Years Day, the University of Utah football team will make its first-ever Rose Bowl appearance. We spoke to reporter Michelle Bodkin of Ute Zone to discuss the game and how this historic season will be defined by more than wins and losses.
