In 1993 Detroit, a pop-culture nerd (Clarence, played by Christian Slater) inadvertently steals cocaine from his new wife's (Alabama, played by Patricia Arquette) pimp (Drexel, played by Gary Oldman) and tries to sell it in Hollywood, prompting the mobsters who own the drugs to pursue the couple.

Along the way, they dine on cheeseburgers, get intimate in a phonebooth, and enjoy a road trip in a purple Cadillac!
