The McYapandFries movie review podcast with Gavin Yap and Iain McNally, Non-stop, Action talk at VIDEOGAME SPEED! Established 2008

    Podcast 233: The Crow (1994)

    Podcast 233: The Crow (1994)

Giving up any pretense of keeping up with current releases, Gavin and Iain delve into 1994's The Crow on our latest podcast. Starring the late Brandon Lee and directed by Alex Proyas this is such a formative movie for us it's amazing we've not covered it before. Having not seen it in a few years, can it possibly stand up to today's modern movie standards? Is there room for the original to be improved upon by the upcoming remake starring Bill Skarsgård (spoilers: that's a big fat no!).

Join us as we discuss our feelings on the film, what makes it stand out to us today, our love of the mazing cast and a taste of what we might be doing in future.

Podcast 232: Barbenheimer, Hungry Ghost Diner, Sorcerer

Yes! We're actually (relatively) current with our latest podcasts, as Iain and Gavin share what they thought of "Barbenheimer". Did we love Greta Gerwig's Barbie? Did Chris Nolan's Oppenheimer blow our minds?

Find out in a show where we also review Malaysian film Hungry Ghost Diner, directed by friend of the show We Jun Cho. Iain also shares the result when he finally sat down to check out William Fiendkin's Sorcerer.

As usual you can contact us at the social media accounts below to let us know what you thought of the show or anything else you want to share with us. Did you manage to Catch Hungry Ghost Diner in the cinema? What did you think? What was YOUR Barbeheimer experience? Did you wear pink for Barbie? Did you dress up for Oppenheiumer?

McYapAndfries 231: Johnny Mnemonic in Black and White

McYapAndfries 231: Johnny Mnemonic in Black and White

McYapAndFries tries something a little different this week as we revisit 1995’s Johnny Mnemonic in Black and White!

After only hearing about this newish version of the cyberpunk "classic" recently,  Iain and Gavin had to get their hands on a copy to check it out. And it was cheap!.

Join us on this week's podcast as we revisit the nightmare cyberpunk future of.... 2021!??

Directed by Robert Longo, written by cyberpunk legend William Gibson and starring McYapandFries favourite Keanu Reeves as Johnny himself, we really didn't know what to expect with this one but were pleasantly surprised!

Also on the show Gavin and Iain chat about Willow leaving Disney+, the latest shenanigans in Hollywood and we experience a little confusion over what actually happened at the end of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood before diving deep into the Keanu Reeves “Classic”.

If you enjoyed the show (or have thoughts on the movie, in color or Black and white) or have other VHS classics you'd like us to revisit(Brainscan! Surviving The Game) you can contact us via the usual social media networks:

McYapAndFries Episode 229: Ray Liotta, No Man Of God, Strange New Worlds

McYapAndFries Episode 229: Ray Liotta, No Man Of God, Strange New Worlds

On this weeks's even more rambling than usual podcast, Gavin and Iain discuss Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Ricky Gervais's latest stand-up special SuperNature and just a soupcon of Top Gun: Maverick before diving deep into the Ted Bundy drama No Man Of God, starring McYapandFries favourite Elijah Wood and Luke Kirby, Iain professes his love for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and finally, we celebrate the life and roles of actor, legend Ray Liotta.

Apologies in advance for some clicking issues with the audio. Despite being a well respected VO director someone still finds new ways to make editing the podcast a nightmare.

As to why he 's recording his own audio, well you can catch Mr. Gavin Yap acting LIVE in Muswell Hill at the Drama Centre Theatre at the National Library, Singapore, from 24th June to 10th July.

Ticket prices are SG$35-85 at either Pangdemonium.com or sistic.com.sg.
