Podcast Episode: Emotional Awareness: Check in with Yourself and Boost Your financial Well-Being

Financial wellness is like a fitness plan to improve your relationship with money, no matter what your financial situation is.

Understandably, all of us have money worries now and again. But just like how eating healthily and exercising makes us feel good in our bodies, positive money habits help us feel financially well.

Like a fitness plan, financial wellness covers routines and behaviors that make you feel more satisfied with your financial situation: whether feeling secure in your financial future or paying bills on time. And, of course, being able to afford things you enjoy, from holidays to the occasional shopping binge.

Tomorrow we welcome Lawrence Sprung. Lawrence is a wealth advisor and the founder of Mitlin Financial.

Lawrence and his firm prioritize clients first. He and the team consistently help clients make healthy financial decisions and offer a tremendous client experience that leverages today’s top tools and technology.

Jake and Lawrence the importance of checking in on your life from time to time to evaluate where you are in your life. This habit of emotional awareness provides you with a strong foundation to make healthy decisions within your life.

Podcast Episode: Are We Moving Towards a Better Society or Regressing?

Podcast Episode: Are We Moving Towards a Better Society or Regressing?

Man is considered the most intelligent amongst all animals. Hence, human beings are not only superior but also evolved, and civilized. Civilisation has seen a stark evolution over many decades now for us to stand where we are today. How we perceive "today" and being "evolved" is very subjective.

Looking around in our own vicinity, with the rise of crime, our immediate environment compromised for selfish motives, spoilt habits and unnecessarily luxurious lifestyles, also living with societal prejudices about gender, religion, and caste, are we really as evolved as we think we are?

We are joined by Donald Conte who is a Professor Emeritus, Department of Earth Sciences, California University of Pennsylvania. A consultant, a author and researcher. He also runs a blog called http://thisisnotyourpracticelife.com/.

Podcast Episode: Understanding Emotions Part V: Fear and Surprise

Podcast Episode: Understanding Emotions Part V: Fear and Surprise

Facial expression recognition is mediated by a distributed neural system in humans that involves multiple, bilateral regions. There are six basic facial expressions that may be recognized in humans (fear, sadness, surprise, happiness, anger, and disgust); however, fearful faces and surprised faces are easily confused in rapid presentation.

In today's episode, Jake explains how the concept of surprise and fear is relevant to many aspects of human behavior. It also affects beliefs about other events. When a person takes an unexpected stance that violates his or her self-interest, the person’s arguments are surprising and quite often more persuasive.

Podcast Episode: Understanding Emotions Part IV: Disgust and Contempt

Podcast Episode: Understanding Emotions Part IV: Disgust and Contempt

Today, Jake breaks down the 4th part of Understanding Emotions. He discusses Disgust and Contempt.

Analyzing the contempt as an intergroup emotion, we suggest that contempt and anger are not built upon each other, whereas disgust seems to be the most elementary and specific basic-emotional antecedent of contempt.

Want to enjoy positive work relationships, healthy relationships with friends, family and partners? Dump the contempt. Listen well. And pump up the positivity! When those more vulnerable feelings are explored in safety and grieved dyadically, a corrective emotional experience may occur. You can’t build a temple of appreciation without fully excavating the building site.

Podcast Episode: Part III: Guilt and Shame

Podcast Episode: Part III: Guilt and Shame

In today's episode Jake discusses potentially the unhealthy cycles of shame and guilt. We encourage you to think of instances in your life where you may be requiring deed based performances from people in order for you to extend forgiveness, and ask yourself are these deeds really necessary for you to forgive them?

Similar to respect and trust, it is up to us to extend these to people. Is it really necessary for us to require people to ‘earn’ these things from us with an arbitrary deed? On the flip side, maybe you think certain people in your life are requiring too much from you. Jake gives everyday examples of where this may occur and delves deeper into forgiveness and the emotions of shame and guilt.

Emotions are temporary

I Learned so much from listening to Jake about Izzard’s View on emotions. It’s ok to feel, but it only lasts less than 10 seconds. Then your thoughts, which you control, takes over. My life and family are better from listening to this and I recommend this podcast to EVERYONE!
