TIP#25: Oral Surgery Residency with Dr Omid Azami

To learn a language, it is common to immerse your self in it. Move to the country, speak and read the language, immerse in the culture.

So why not do the same with disciplines of dentistry? That is exactly what this weeks guest did.

Dr Omid Azami, the host of The Noobie Dentist Podcast, is currently working in the Oral Surgery Department of The Melbourne Dental Hospital. The wealth of knowledge and experience he has gained is second to none. People (like us) would pay big dollars for this kind of education.

In this episode he shares the story and the lessons learnt.

Check out his podcast - years of top level interviews with some of the worlds best dentists.

#46 – Dental Education with Dr Susie Dracopoulos

#46 – Dental Education with Dr Susie Dracopoulos

There are a few people in your career who really leave an impact. Your first clinical mentor, your first employer, your close classmates. One of the most impactful for a generation of dentists at The University of Sydney is Dr Susie Dracopoulos - affectionately referred to as Dr D.

Dr D was the welcoming face at my first dentistry lecture. She led our preclinical training and was the year coordinator in those formative years. And while dentistry can be a stressful degree with stories that make some of us sweat years later, Dr D was a consistent support and a passionate teacher.

It goes without saying this one is nostalgic for me. But past that it is a window into teaching and the paths your career can take outside of clinical practice. Dr Dracopoulos is now the Scientific Affairs and Education Manager for the ANZ division of 3M Oral Care. A fascinating role and window into one of the many paths a career can take.

A wide ranging discussion with someone many of us know and trust, enjoy!

TIP#23: CBCT in Endodontics with Dr Omar Ikram @specialistendocrowsnest

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is being used more and more in general dentistry, that 3D perspective is taking some of the guess work out of diagnosis. However, how many times have you been in that situation where you are looking for that MB2, or you're not getting to where you think length should be, if only there was a way that we could see more of what is going on within the tooth? Well, what about using CBCT midway through our treatment? Dr Omar Ikram, opened my eyes to the appropriate uses of CBCT in Endodontics, for diagnosis of tricky cases, but also to give us that extra bit of information we need advance when we get stuck mid treatment
