The Danger of Telling Yourself Stories

The Danger of Telling Yourself Stories

Recently, I was working with a few new parents who were feeling overwhelmed by the disconnect and misunderstandings that often arise when a new baby enters the picture. It’s incredibly easy to get caught up in the stories we tell ourselves—stories based on our fears, assumptions, and limited perspectives.

The thing is… those stories might not be true.

    - They might make you feel unwanted or unloved.

    - They might make you doubt your partner’s commitment.

    - They might make you avoid important conversations and misunderstand each other's actions.

Not every story we tell ourselves accurately reflects our partner's feelings or intentions.

The more we let these false narratives guide our feelings and reactions, the more complicated our relationships become—and the worse off we are as partners and parents.

In today’s episode of the Better Relationships After Baby podcast, we’re diving into “The Story I’m Telling Myself.” We’ll explore how these stories form, how they impact our relationships, and practical steps to align our narratives with reality.

    YOU’LL LEARN:

    - Why we often live in different narratives than our partners

    - How these mismatched stories can build unnecessary resentment and negative feelings

    - Practical tools to start conversations with clarity and align on values

    - Real-life examples of how these narratives play out and how to address them

Join me as we uncover the stories we tell ourselves and learn how to create a more honest, connected, and understanding relationship.

Ready to stop the miscommunication and strengthen your relationship? Join my FREE Fighting Better Challenge inside my Facebook group, Better Relationships After Baby. We’ll tackle the top reasons new parents fight and develop strategies to fight with more respect and solutions.
